I'm a convert as well.  I shaved at the sink all my adult life.  Shaving your head in the shower just makes it so much easier and more efficient.

JDR!  Way to go bro!  Glad you found a routine that works for you.

I enjoy shaving my head. The best trick I discovered over the years was shaving in the shower and using a cheap old nylon bristle bath brush on my head and face before shaving. Nothing beats the feeling of being totally slick bald after running the Schick up the middle of the old head against the grain every morning.

I sink shaved this morning for the first time - ugggh - not enjoyable at all.  But I was in a hurry so I did the deed at the sink.

I am a night showerer - or technically an evening showerer.  I go to the gym after work every day - then I get home and do chores (mow the lawn, walk the dog, play outside with the kiddos, etc.) so I take a shower in the evening and that is generally when I shave my dome.

I would prefer to shower in the morning and shave my head - but that only happens on weekends since I am getting myself and the kids ready in the morning and I don't have a lot of time on weekdays.

I get the shower hot - I let my head get nice and steamy - opening the pores and softening any stubble - then I scrub the old dome with Jack Black and a Salux Cloth (Japanese washcloth - made out of a coarse nylon - hypoallergenic, dries fast, exfoliates well, and are very inexpensive - just Google them!) - clear away the dead skin and clean out the pores.

I have tried the following (Edge shave gel, King of Shaves menthol, Shave Secret oil, Headslick) - It just depends on my mood.  I use the HeadBlade and rinse often - when I am done I check for any spots I missed with my fingertips - go over it again - rinse with hot water - then I rinse with COLD water.

I hate shaving my face - but shaving my head in the shower is part of my daily ritual that I really enjoy.

Regards,

Matthew

I'm right there with you matthew, shaving the dome is fun but I hate shaving my face.

I tried sink shaving once, and only once.  After that butcher job I make my shaving home in the shower lol.

I have been a shower shaver most of my adult life so when I started shaving my head, that was just a natural progression...

The thing that really made shaving my head much more enjoyable and much much faster was the headblade... its worth trying out if you haven't already.

When I first tried to shave my head - I did it at the sink several years ago with a cheapo disposable razor - I actually cut off a strip of skin about 1/4" wide and 2" long on the back of my head.  I didn't use any shaving cream at the time - I just shaved with clippers then wet my head and went to town....it was ugly.

Journey, destination, whatever already.  I can see that a hot shower shave could be a great experience, but I love wrapping the noggin in a small terry cloth towel just before finishing the shower w/ a towel soaked and rung damp w/ the pure hot water, then I set up the shaving "weapons" and finish a towel rub down, and as the damp towel cools, I prep the scalp w/ gel or headslick and now a spritz of rubbing alcohol thanks to Warhawk ( GREAT find) and apply my beloved Fusion, and then a quick "second" shave that I've mentioned before that was suggested or mentioned by Razor, then rinse, and some shave balm by Nivea.  The feel of the smooth, baby butt scalp is absolutely a top point of the day O:O O:O O:O.  It's going on nine months and I haven't missed a day, it's just that good. O0 O0 O0 O0  Now in the summer SlyinKC's Banana Boat has proved another great improvement, stays dry and non-oily all day--although I regret the loss of some, but thank the great Shaved One, the Dome in the Sky, not all, the SHINE.

Well... before I went sly, my hair was a nightmare. First, it grows out... not down. I could never have long hair. I had a cobmination of a William Shatner toupee and a "white boy afro" going. Real hideous!

My hair was naturally curly. Add dandruff and/or psoriasis and you have a real problem. Special shampoos, etc, got expensive.

So I started cutting with an electric clippers a few years back. Down to a #2 or sometimes a #1 guard. The wife did it for me. Every now and then, I would splurge for the barber, get a "fade" or something different.

One day, I could not find the guard for the clipper. So we took it all the way down. I joked with my wife that I was gonna wet-shave it. She hesitated, but later said "why not" and I did the deed. With a disposable, no less!

We never looked back. She likes it. And so do I. Often wonder why the hell I never did it sooner! I did have to exfoliate a lot for the first week to kill off all the dead flaky crap. But now, I am slick and shiny with no flakes.

Yes, I find head shaving very enjoyable. As for the routine, I am down to 7-10 minutes in the shower. This is if I do it daily. if I skip a day, it takes longer because I get some serious Velcro Stubble action after missing a shave.

It goes a little something like this...

  • Hot lather, soap the dome.
  • Apply apricot scrub, srub scalp and face. Rinse.
  • Apply HeadSlick. Shave with the grain.
  • Rinse. Lather head a second time. Rinse.
  • Apply HeadSlick. Shave against the grain.
  • Cold water rinse. Exit shower.
  • Touch up any missed patches with standard Atra razor. Shave face.
  • Apply splash-on after shave (I use a generic of Skin Bracer)
  • If scalp is a little on the dry side, apply some Nivea Soft.

I can sink shave, and do sometimes if I need to touch-up before going out or something. But a full shave actually takes longer, the hot shower and lots of water makes it go easier.

I took your advice and got a couple of these cloths. These are simply amazing. At first they seem abrasive but they leave your skin feeling so smooth afterwards. My lady friend loves them too!! Thanks !!

Wow, more products to try out.  There is a large Japanese super market near me.  I'll go by there after work and see if they carry the Salux cloths.
