Facial tattoos.
« on: April 25, 2008, 08:25:19 PM »
Hello fellow chrome domes(TM Warhawk)....I was wondering if anyone here had any facial tattoos or plans to get any, or even what your thoughts on the subject is.

I have seen many heavily tattooed people in my life, and some with some very extreme facial tattooing. We are talking full body transformation.

Personally I would never get a facial tattoo. I respect the choices people have over their own bodies however. One facial tattoo that I like is the common teardrop tattoo. This is subtle enough to were it would not look completley outrageous.

Jdog-

When I was in South Carolina last month, the tattoo place had a big sign behind the desk that read:  Absolutely NO Tattos will be done above and including the neck!

So I asked the guy that tattooed me about it. He said that people in SC were getting tattooed on the neck and face and then having trouble getting jobs..... so they claimed disability. Of course the state fought that stupidity and also enacted the "No Neck and face Tattoo law".

Funny thing..... tattooing has been legal in SC for only three years.

Warhawk I remember when Iron Mike got that facial tatto. He actually caused quite a bit of controversy with it as it is a traditional Maori tribal tattoo that only High Chiefs will get.

When I used to work for Starbucks, I had this one customer who was sly and he was tattooed from head to toe.  He was the nicest guy.  Plus he wasn't hurting for money as he was a longshoreman.  But in my taste, he looked hideous.  I know quite a few people with tattoos.  I have nothing against them at all.  Some are friends.  But I have never wanted one.  And I do feel that the face is one place one should NOT get one.  While the longshoreman guy has a good job, I just think it is taking a major risk to get a facial tattoo.  Plus tattoos are very hard to get rid of.  I think of it as being something that someone will potentially regret.

Yea, at a theme park in Utah...

a true skinhead had his eyebrows shaved off  and had "white power" tatted ABOVE where the brows should have been...

why shave off the brows then?!

Classy move, eh?! :o

I've got a couple of tats on my shoulders but I'd never do the face.
I saw a guy on the train a while ago who had tattoos on most of the exposed parts.  He was sly and had a mohawk made up of soft foam ear-plugs stuck on his head (http://www.3mestore.com/70070406304.html?WT.mc_id=3M-com-AtoZ-Ear-Plug)

He made me smile

Look at the husband of the gal knocked out of American Idol. Lotsa face tatts. He looked, beyond wacko. I wouldn't be surprised if that hurt her chances when they used to show close-ups of him inn the audience throughout the competition.

I have 250+ hrs of tattooes on my body, and my neck is almost done in a Tibetan theme (i.e. cause I am the Yeti), but I have no plans to tattoo above the neck. I have plugs in my ears, Organic Wood at 11/16ths for now. I have done it totally traditional and went up 1 gauge at a time, from the very first piercing stud. It's taken years, but I love the symbolism. Tattooes have been around forever, in many different cultures of the world. I happen to have a culmination of many societies on me, Japanese, Polynesian, Tibetan, Egyptian, Chinese, and many more. The Yeti loves meeting people from all cultures and tries to embrace all by this means. Just my lil 2 copper pieces to add to this story. I have some more pics of my tattooes on my linked MySpace page, feel free to check them out. Many more are not listed. I have not been here in a long time, due to irl issues, but well met all the new ppl. Welcome to SBG Forums! I am the Yeti, first Moderator, and hopefully still loved by all!  hehe /cyberhugs and /cyberhandshakes   8)

Yetti, it is good to see you back!  I forgot that you are a tattoo fan and that you have a bunch.  So it is all good.  This world would be boring if we were all the same!

I have a couple of tid bits on this one -

A few years ago I was walking over to the ATM near my work and passed a girl that could not have been more than 20 years old with a completely tattooed face. I had seen people with tattooed faces before this seemed very extreme for such a young girl... kinda disturbed me as it seemed that she was not quite mature enough to make a decision of that caliber...

As some of you know I have done some freelance writing work in the past and as a follow up to an article I did I went down to Hollywood to interview one of the best tattoo artists in the LA area. Zulu studied as a graphic artist and quit that to emeurse himself in the tattoo culture. He has traveled the earth studying tattoo from all different cultures and he has a face tatt that is very symbolic to him. This guy will not tattoo you unless he feels what you are getting done has true spiritual meaning to you and even then, once approved, he waits a week or two and consults you again. Pretty amazing guy and his facial tatts are obviously of a tribal nature... so it is very acceptable looking on him.

I'm all for tattoos but I think that tattoos on the face should only be for a tribal or religous reasons, other than that they just seem to be a bit silly. I think that its up to each individual but its not for me, and thats just my feeling on it.
