Fashion Dilemma!!

I'm having a mid life fashion dilemma (not really)....... here it is:

Do you tuck your shirt in or not? Or does it depend?

It totally depends on what you are wearing and where you are wearing it to.  T-Shirt at a pool party - left out.
T-Shirt at a social gathering - tuck it in.

Button down shirts should almost always be tucked in even if your wearing shorts with it.  Rule of thumb - If it has buttons, tuck it in.

button ups and even t-shirts in a business setting should be tucked, but in a social setting it seems that the new rule is untucked or the halftuck(just the front)

thats just my observation, check with BaldRob he seems to be the man when it comes to fashion these days

Disagree on the button down rule, GASlick. Aloha (aka Hawaiian style) shirts have buttons and I never tuck them in. Even the silk Tommy Bahama style shirts are designed to be worn tucked out.

Very true Schro - Those shirts are designed to be worn out.  The situation where you wear them though should be taken into consideration.  Attitudes and social norms are different in different parts of the country.  Where I live even a shirt like that would still be tucked in. (assuming the wearer is an adult - teenagers and kids are a whole other issue) and also assuming your not on vacation on some island somewhere.

I never tuck in a tee shirt.

I wear a lot of button shirts out. Usually if it is cut straight at the bottom, I leave it out, if it is the long in front and back style I tuck it in.

really I don't tuck in my shirt unless it I am wearing a tie or it is a "business casual" situation

Tucked in unless it's a t-shirt; then it doesn't matter.  I'm not cool enough to pull off business casual with a shirt  out.  Some guys can do it, but not me.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

Welll...

if you are trying not to feel "out" of it...the hip kids do the "half tuck" with t-shirts (the front tucked in just behind the belt buckle)...that helps show your waist size...

botton down shirts left untucked for casual events or night clubs...

tucked in for more formal events...

helps?

I only tuck it in when I'm wearing a suit.

I only tuck in if I'm wearing a shirt and tie kind of get up.  I have a lot of polo style shirts too.  I've always been told that if they are long in the back and short in the front you usually leave those untucked.  IDK  I usually leave everything I wear untucked.  I have quite a few button down shirts too.  Short and long sleeve.  I'll wear one of those with a pair of jeans and sneakers and I never tuck that in.  My wife is like the fashion police around here with me.  Nothing against anyone out there by any means but she tells me I look like a dork if I tuck in those button down shirts.  Or any shirt for that matter unless it's the "shirt and tie" deal like I said before.

this is the type of shirt that I tuck in (usually worn with a tie anyway).

Notice the bottom is cut long in front and back? I think those un-tucked look sloppy to me although I have seen some made to be worn out.

(btw, I just found this pic on the web, I do not know who it is)

on the other hand, this style I think should not be tucked.

thats just what I was taught by the various ladies in my life.

Yeah, that's tacky.  If I'm wearing slacks, I'd tuck it in.  At minimum he should unbutton the top two buttons.

Indeed, this does depend on the shirt being worn.

At work, I will tuck in any collared, button up shirt. No matter if it is plain white or if it has patterns(stripes etc).

However if I am in a social function  I wear what I call casual collared shirts untucked. I have never tucked a tshirt in ,in my life, the exception being hanes undershirts of course.

I own 1 Hawaiian shirt which I still will wear from time to time. I've had it since 1998. Cost me $25 from JC Penny. Schro,  you would appreciate it.
