Screw the corporate machine!!!
« on: December 09, 2007, 04:22:30 PM »
My company has a Toys for Tots drive going on right now. "Truckers for ToTs" actually. Our small store has already raised about $2000,with about 400 pulled in from my wife and I. T 4 T's is a great orginization, but here's the shady part. My boss is pretty new still. He thought when the collection ended he would take the top people who raised the most and go to Wal Mart or Toys r US and fill up a couple shopping carts, then drop em off at the Marine's HQ up here. Friday, we get a e-mail from corporate stating that we have to spend every cent at the truck stop. In previous years we were always stuck with alot of holiday over stock. The prices are over inflated and there's not alot to choose from. If we still have any money left after the toys are gone were susposed to buy miscellaneous other items."Here ya go little Timmy! Here's your CB, Tire gauge, and No Lot Lizards Decal. Merry Cristmas."
It makes me sick that our employer in trying to cut losses and profit off a charity.

It might help freak if you tell the corporate boss that Toys for Tots can only accept toys (though they may now accept cash donations as well.)  I assised in coordinating that program for several years before retiring from the Marine Corps and that was always standard policy.  Need to clarify that, call local recruiter or reserve unit and check it out.

WANNA HEAR A GOOD ONE ?  no offense PAUL, but screw the MARINES toys for tots program !  I belong to a rather LARGE motorcycle club (DETROIT HIGHWAYMEN) and granted we might not have the best rep when it comes to community charity work, BUT...  last year we had a MANDATORY christmas party at which we were to bring an un wrapped xmas present of at least 20$, we contacted the MARINE's to come pick up the 2 or 3 pickup's FULL of toys and basic winter clothes (gloves, caps, mittens) and were told POINT BLANK "we know who you are and your reputation , and WE DONT NEED THE THINGS THAT BAD, THANKS BUT NO THANKS " so we contacted the disabled vets , to help provide a christmas for their families , THEY were tickeled pink , to get the help , so THATS who we contacted this year !  SOMETIMES a program can get tooo big for its own good

I'm just pissed about thier ulterior motives. I mean the kids who have nothing will be happy to recieve a 5 foot tall teddy bear. But our pricess are steep. Ultimately some one's gonna makes some dough off of it, but at least we could get a lot more, and take care of alot more kids if they allowed us to go to Walmart for the gifts.

It is sad they put limitations on who can donate, it is a shame. It is not what the Jesus I believe in would want to happen, but it is a sign of the times.

That is ridiculous.    I'd do what you were originally going to do anyway, as I wouldn't want to have to tell little jimmy or suzie we didn't get what you wanted because we could only get it at the truck stop.

With the increase in the unemployment rate and diasters in the U.S. I believe the monies raised this year should go to the famalies who need a hot meal and warm clothes.... just my opinion

Well.....Even emergency personel carry little stuffed animals to cheer up kids during times of crisis. This week end they had a thing on TV about adults that recieved stuff from T4T's when the were little and They all said that tthey still have happy memories about it and can still remember the person who gave it to them.

Don't get me wrong bf, I agree kids need something for the holiday also, I just think this year is tough for alot more adults than the last 10 years have been. With the number of houses being turn over to the banks and stuff, its really rough. With your corporation dictating to spend the money at a TS, food might be a good option to consider. Corporate America can really piss me off sometimes....

Wow, Porky -- they refused the donation?!?!

I know the Missionaries of Charity are in Detroit (Mother Teresa's nuns) ... they'd be happy to accept donations!
