I'm another one w/ skin issues, seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis, and I go to the dermatologist regularly.  No problems at all since buzzing down nearly 3 months ago and using a loofa pad for exfoliating every morning in the shower on the noggin.  Also recommend the aloe vera lotions, cremes and gels that you can get over the counter--use w/ a non-alcohol after shave.  Clean, Clear & Shiny, you can't ask for more.

Welcome, Peefyloo.  I had dry red patches on my scalp that all cleared up after shaving.  I think we have your solution, bro.  Go for it!! O0

All the other brothers have already given you great advice.  So I'll just say welcome and you have found the perfect place for support for shaving and for information.

Bro, I had longer hair than yours, and I do not regret it whatsoever.
My dandruff? Gone.
Dry skin? Gone, as long as I moisturize.
A loofa also helps, as it very effectively removes dead, dried out cells.

However I do not have any of the skin conditions you mention, I would Google that to death my friend.
I'll never look back, and I don't think you would either [its pretty damn freaky for the first couple of weeks though!]

If you let it grow back in after having shaved it, it would probably look different as you have more hair missing. But its easy to tell through the morning velcro.

Goodluck!

Peefyloo,

You mention that you're in a band. I thought all bands have a token bald guy these days. Be that guy. Use that as your excuse. From your pics I think the look would definitely suit you bro.

You also asked about growing it back might be impacted by your thinning. First of all, if you're thinking about growing it back never tell these guys!!!

I'm kidding, they're a great group, very supportive whether you take all of their advice right away or not. As you can tell by my wonderful horseshoe I haven't taken their advice yet either but they continue to be supportive and I think I'm just about there.

Anyway, back to you. If in fact you do decide to grow it back I can tell you from personal experience as someone who also had long hair, that as it starts to thin the shorter you cut it the thicker it will look. The longer your hair means the more weight it has and the more it will hang and seperate, thus revealing more of your scalp.

My best advice to you is to just shave it, be that token bald guy for your band. One thing you don't see in a band is a horseshoe like mine and I'm sure that's where you're headed bro. Do it for yourself bro and do it those of us like me who didn't have the guts to do it when we were your age.

Welcome

Adam

Welcome to SBG's.
Your hair will grow back from the areas it is currently growing. The hair thats falling out now seems great beacause it is so long, but if you just buzz it down it won't seem like as much is falling out... its trickery I tell ya!
But you being in a band I say go for the shave after you speak to the dermo. Nothing bettter than seeing different lights beaming off a sly guys head onstage!!! d5c*

Peefyloo,

I can relate to this on many levels...

I had long hair when I started noticing hair loss.

I also (like Schro and others) had seborrheic dermatitis.

I was also in a band at that point (and I am still in that band to this day)

Of the advise I could give, at least buzz your head. You will notice scalp improvements immediately and once you shave it clean it will most likely clear it up complete. The long hair gives that flaky stuff plenty of places to hide and cling to.

As far as your band, they will most likely accept you for the musician you are and not your hair.  Personally, I watched all my band mates eventually shave their heads... they all have perfect heads of hair.

Good luck man.

I had exactly the same problem, since i started shaving i havent had the itching skin as well, all the skin problems went away
Basically...for the past year or so i've been loosing hair. I got really thinning hair on top, and everytime i wash my hair, hair comes out...not like the usual...many...way to much. I've tried all that regrow shampoo crab and herbal stuff...i just said...screw it...it will happen..

I got long hair now...but i gotta get it cut anyway...and was thinkin about just shaving it. one theme stops me... ECZEMA. i have very dry skin, and my scalp is very dry. So dry that even if i comb my hair, skin starts to flake and i look like i have dandruff. even if i scratch my head a little. It's very bad, and is what probably is causing my hair to fall out. I'm actually going to a dermatologist on Thursday.

With the hair...the flakes...its embarrassing obviously.

Well if i shaved my head...how would my dome look? would it be all scaled like a snake? or what? i really dont know...and if i take the chance...well...and it looks bad...it will take awhile for the hair to grow... any advice, suggestions would be great, Thanks :)

Heres a pic with my hair as of Halloween...yes i was a pirate lol, and one from a few weeks before that:
