• I am sorry, but this just seems to be total @#%$&*!
  I am all for not trying to be mean to people and rub it in their face that maybe they are not the best in their class, job or whatever.  I know that I wasn't the best in my class, but I didn't feel it was unfair to me that I wasn't the top in my class.  That person who was named that deserved the accolades as they earned it!  PC is so full of crap as it seems to be so anti-American as it wants us to hate everything about our heritage.  Yeah, I know that America and our heritage is not perfect and we can and should acknowledge it, but PC seems to want us to hate ourselves.  Sorry, I am just not going to do that!

• Above average achievements should be recognized as should below average achievements. Leting this valedictorian thing come down to fractions of a point is being FAR too nitpickey anyway, round up round down whatever, you dont make it... too f-ing bad.
  
  Every game should have a winner and a loser too, I remember reading about youth soccer awhile back that stopped keeping score to abolish "winners" and "just play for fun". Sportsmanship is one of the most valuable lessons I ever learned as a kid, either loosing with pride or being a humble winner, one of the things that I have really applied throughout life to many situations.

• they tried to 'ban' competitive sports in junior schools here a few years back, or at lest, to discourage it, trying to make out that all kids could be winners.  But kids LOVE competition, and I firmly believe there is something for every kid: everyone excels at something.
  
  As a result, there are a lot of young people (mid twenties or so) in UK who think they are FANTASTIC, they have loads of confidence, loads of self-belief (which in its way is great, I'm not knocking it), but when they are told they havent achieved something, or that they have lost out to someone else, they don't seem to be able to handle the knock-back.
  
  I think competition is good for people.  There's always someone better, there's always someone worse.  That's LIFE and no one should try to PC it.

• when i was a kid, we had to TRY OUT for sports. no guarantee to make the team. then there was no rule saying you HAD to play. i have seen it with my son's sports. little johnny sits his lazy asss on the couch and his mommy babies him. he has no athletic ability and no desire to do anything other than eat twinkies and play video games. but his dad, who had big dreams of being a sports star, and can't let them go, forces him to join the team. all the PC POLICE force coaches and organizations to put him on the team. his unwillingness to try and compete takes time away from the kids who really love being out there. i have also seen the kids who have no athletic ability but have hearts the size of texas. no matter where you ask these kids to play, or if you ask them to sit out, they are just happy to be there. i'll take the latter group all day long.  i will never force my kids to participate in any certain sport. but i do insist that they find something they like and take part in it. if the kid enjoys it, he/she will be better at it. my oldest son is pretty good on the baseball field. my youngest hates baseball. will i ask the little one to play ball? no, he hates it. but he does enjoy science. so we spend alot of time digging for creatures or watching animals. whatever interests him at the time. my point is that if a kid doesn't want to play sports and is really not any good at it, why make him/her miserable by forcing them on a team. why hurt the kids who want to be there by taking away from their experience because we don't want to hurt little johnny's feelings. you know what, get yer lazy assess up and find out what your kids are into and dive into it with them. hell you may have some fun along the way too.
