I think it looks great.  Don't give it a second thought.

My thoughts are that you have a better shaped head than mine, so I should be jealous.  Seriously, it looks good.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

1) The shadow will always be there if you had dark hair even if completely smooth because the hair pores are dark colored.

2)  The method I recommend is getting a headblade, and I go down the front and back with the grain, then I do left and right across the head front and back, then I go against the grain both ways and touch up whatever I missed.

It takes about 10-15 minutes for me to get it completely smooth.

3) don't worry about a scar, nobody cares or really even notices.

tufts,
You are being your worst critic. You rock the SLY look.  O0
Stop all the worrying and let your new SLY-ness give you the confidence to hold up your new slick shiny head.   O:O

O0 O0 O0 Ahoy, Mate. I took my second degree at Tufts during the 1960s; it was the best time of my life and I loved Boston and the University. The guys have already given you the best advice. I can add only that a completely shaven dome will minimize the irregular bald spot; you have to shave daily to defeat the velcro. Also, try Mederma on the scar. The stuff's expensive--about $36.00 a tube in the NY metro area--but effective in lowering and bleaching out scars. I know: I fell on my head on Memorial Day, suffering a gash that took 15 stitches to close and leaving a wart-like avulsion, now, thankfully, almost gone. The shadow, as Razor remarked, lessens if you get some color on your head. Remember: you are much more conscious of the scar than others; try to embrace it as a mark of distinction. Kill a couple of pitchers with friends while making up fantastic stories about how you got it, e.g. your time in the border scirmishes between the Indians and Nepalese in the 90s, etc. All best, Professor Melon

Solid advice all around, as usual....For some odd reason my profile is radically different from the right side. I'm quite comfortable with how I look from the front and left sides. However, from the right side, I can't help but feel like a conehead as it looks more pointed than it does round...Oh well, as has been suggested, I've got to get over the insecurities because they are literally crippling my day to day life. I refuse to go outside w/out a hat on. In fact, I'm not sure when I last went to class or work (thankfully I'm a graduate assistant so I can dress however I want) without a hat on. Hell, I'm even avoiding seeing the family again as the last time they saw me I at least appeared to have a full head of hair...As everyone knows, the constant obsessing is paralyzing and until you get over it you spend every waking moment concerned about how your dome looks.

Prof. Melon...Glad to hear you enjoyed Tufts and Boston. I couldn't agree more. I'm hoping to follow in your footsteps as I'm pursuing the MA now en route to the Ph.D...Hopefully all this work will pay off and land me a decent assistant professorship
