Hello Uncola, welcome here.

One solution is: Do it step by step. Use a clipper and cut #5, #4, #3 ...., without guard, week by week or just how you want and once jump over the fence and do the deed.
And when you don't like it, let the hair grow again. It is a way, which works. Read the threads.

Enjoy hanging on the forum.

It was a few years of doing the clipper deal, going down to the #0 . I said for years that I would just shave it all off if got worse, well I had enough of it getting worse, so Iwent for it, it sure as hell wasn't getting any better :*)). Now I kick myself for not doing it sooner.

still on the fence...  have been thinking about it and have even buzzed it very short on two occasions since Jan of 2006 or so.   My hangups are dating, sunburn and work.

it is a tight look though so i am considering how to introduce myself at work as all of sudden a sly guy you know?

I think a lot of guys will tell you that reactions from work are usually non-existent.  I've heard a few stories where guys have thought that they would get a lot of reaction from people at work and at the end of the day, there was maybe one.  So, I wouldn't worry about work at all.

In regards to dating, anything that boosts your confidence is going to boost your dating.

Suncreen = no sunburn.

Welcome, RC.  You just need to do it if you've thought about it that much.  I know from experience, your fears are way overblown.....And you'll love it!!!!

Tyler said it right, you probably won't get any comments at work--maybe a compliment or two.  Sounds like you could lather and shave this weekend. Why not start December Sly, you won't regret it at all.

I remember always wanting to be completely bald since seeing Yul Brynner on TV in the early 60s. Then Came Telly Savalas.  I always thought a slick head just looked and seemed so damn sharp.  I grew up wearing short hair and crewcuts and when I went into the Army, I use to just go into the barber weekely and get peeled with no guard. Finally, after having been to the field for months on end, I stood in frnt of the mirror in 1983( aftr coming back from the field and on vacation) and thoughtt to myself that this is the moment.  Had been to the barber several days early.  I washed my stubble to get it softened up, got out the shave creme and went slick against the grain. I remember wiping the shave crme off my bald head and thinking that a daily head shave was now part of my new daily routine as a permanently bald man.

Welcome Uncola...

dating...no problem you only WANT girls that understand a dude that wants a bald head...
sunburn...use sunscreen or a hat (but why cover up perfection)...
work.....

dude, come up with a 'sucker bet" and make sure you end up being the sucker..

tell whoever you bet with you'll shave your head slick and smooth if you loose..

rig it and show up to work clean as a baby's butt!

Just make sure you for sure will lose!

Believe me if you dig the bald look and have been thinking about it, you wont be satisfied until you don't have a single hair on your head...that includes stubble bro!

Make the bet and go enjoy your new life brutha...it's waitin' for ya! O0

Wow, I never saw this topic. I never sat on the fence (don't like things poking my ass) but I usually make a decision and just do it. When I was thinning and people commented about it I would say, one day I will come in completely bald.... and that day has came and went!  :)
As I originally posted I did not realize that my hair bothered me until I shaved it... guess it was denial??
But I thought about shaving, had questions, found this site that day, asked questions, got answers, and shaved shortly after that... did the taper down effect!

RC:
I was on the fence about six months. That ended 2.5 months ago. During that fence time, I had my barber keep going shorter and shorter until we both knew the slick dome was the next step. It's amazing how losing that last 1/8-inch of hair was all that kept me from jumping to the SLY side of the fence.

Now look at me, I'm dishing out advice like a SLY veteran.

Keep reading the posts here if you're interested in giving it a shot. The rush of self-esteem (OK, and a little anxiety) most of us experienced when we finally did it was awesome.

The only reason I was on the fence that long was because I wanted to be sure that the lovely Mrs.Koz was OK with the decision to go SLY. She has an Uncle and a Cousin who are SLY so she said "DO IT!". O0
