Anybody else live down here? I don't know if its just down here, or all over the states, but automatic weapons are all over the place now. I don't know where the hell they get them either. Just last month the cops pulled some guy over in Ft. Lauderdale, and he came out with an AK 47 and sprayed the cops, killing a sherriff and I think the other cop as well. Last week they pulled some guy over when he was driving suspiciously, and he stepped out and blasted one of the cops in the face and injured three others...with an AK!
Its like a damn warzone or something. Police in Miami-dade county are now encouraged to carry automatic weapons, and police in nearby broward county have been doin it since last year....crazy
RIP to the fallen police officers.
"Getting" crazy? That damn place has been crazy for a long time. No offense, Chico.....I used to live down there. You can't escape crime altogether by moving to somewheres else....but you can escape A LOT by moving out of S. Florida.
I know that me and my family now sleep better at night and feel safer going about town.
I had to take the bus to work for a spell from A1A in Ft. Laud up to the Tamarac area....it was like the f**k'n twilight zone, man. Once my wife was picking me up from a bus stop. She was waiting in the car in this nearby parking lot with my two young kids in car seats.
I walk up on this f**k'n thug approaching my wife's car. He sees me and takes off. Thank the Living Lord Jesus I was there, man....who knows what that f**k'n scum-bag low life was up to...car jack?...with my KIDS IN THE CAR? Muther F**ker. Wasn't long after this that we moved. Forgive me, but I hate that place. But...you brought it up.
I feel you man, I don't really hate the place, for some reason I have a strong love and pride for the city, but it is like the love for a dysfunctional family member...lol.
Too many stories too share, but I realized the more you mind your biz, the better off things are. To me the benefits far out weight the bad parts. But I would understand your situation would be different, considering the wife and kids.
I had to move from North Miami to Miami Springs when I was like 7 years old. Somebody tried to kick down our door when we went out one night, and my neighbor spotted it. They called the cops and the guy disappeared. Next week they shot like three or four bullets thru our sliding glass door, and it flew right by me and my dad into the next room. We moved to an apartment a few days later, than into a nice house in peaceful Miami Springs.
My dad suspects that it was somebody trying to get at some drug dealer across the street and they mistook the house. We weren't even sure the guy across the street was a drug dealer, my dad just suspected it cause of the guys cars and lifestyle, etc.
Shoot, I had a friend stabbed and killed in a party. I've gotten hit in the head with a bottle. But these things all stem from a stupid curiousity to be involved with dangerouse situations I shouldn't have been, and my friend as well. RIP though.
I haven't lived in South Florida but have visited many times. The only place that creeped me out something awful was Biscayne Boulevard north of downtown Miami. Sunrise Boulevard between Federal Highway and I-95 is creepy, too.
You can find crazy anywhere. I used to work in Washington, DC and lived between Baltimore and DC, right off of I-95 in a little town called Savage. You would think nothing would ever happen in that town. In 1993, two "men" from DC who ran out of gas and pulled over in the rest stop off of I-95 near the Savage exit. They tried to steal a car and a truck driver chased them off into the woods. They came out the other side into a new housing development. A new father was videotaping his wife put their little baby in the car. The tape showed the two cretins walking in the street behind the car. They pulled off a carjacking. The mother's arm was caught in the seatbelt and was dragged for more than two miles. They cretins drove up against a barbed wire fence to pull her off. They threw the baby, in the car seat, out of the car. They were caught, and one of them got the death penalty - don't know if it was carried out. The mother of one of them cried on WJZ-13, "They convicted him because he's black." BS!
I used to see toddler age children roam around the Bladensburg Road-New York Avenue intersection at 6AM. There was a welfare hotel nearby - since torn down.
I'll take South Florida over DC seven days a week, and twice on Sunday.
Chico, thats some heavy stuff going down in your neck of the woods bro. South Florida has been a large territory for drug dealers for years and I attribute their industry and prescence to the high crime rate there. Violent crime in general is dropping but certain areas seem to remain steady.
My hometown of Toledo Ohio(pop 400,00) had 25 murders in 3 months last year.Compared to 2 the year before. A lot of criminals and drug dealers are leaving the big midwest cities of Cleveland,Detroit and Chicago and converging on the Lake Erie shore.
Robmeister, The Good Lord put you there on that day to protect your family. I'm sure the scumbag died from an overdose in some filthy alley years ago.
