More baldies everywhere
« on: July 02, 2025, 05:21:45 AM »
Have you guys noticed there seems to be more shaved heads everywhere vthis year? No matter where I go, I see multiple guys proudly sporting a smooth bald head. I guess more men are discovering the advantages of having no hair. It looks like they are tossing the hat away so they can show off the best haircut ever!

I?ve seen quite a few more bald guys this year.  We?ve had a hot summer, so maybe that?s the reason.  I don?t miss having hair in this heat.  Come to think of it, I don?t miss having hair the rest of the year, either.

@chuck63 , yes, I agree the summer heat is much more bearable without hair. I don't like wearing hats and the cool breeze on a shaved head feels great. I go to several classic car cruise-ins every week and sit with a bunch of old farts like me. You never see most of the guys without a cap, mostly to hide their balding head. I try to tell them how much better it is to just go for the bald style!

Much more common than just a few years ago.  But I did see a young guy at the gym, maybe in his mid 20's, with a very bad comb over.  He was constantly checking and adjusting it in the mirrors to keep his balding concealed/covered, but it was very obvious.  I wanted to tell him how bad it looked, but was afraid of offending him.

Recently? No, at least not here in Israel. A super tiny percentage of balding men have hair systems, a slightly larger percentage have HT (when we could actually GO to Turkey), SMP was popular about 10 years ago, less now.

Shaved heads... About the same. You see it on TV. Balding men in government or the military, or celebrities all tend to just shave their heads.

LOL, except Bibi who rocks a purple combover (and wears more makeup than a corpse).  ;D

I think I've seen the same number of guys as prior years. But at the same time, I think a lot of younger guys are treating their hair loss with medications and possibly transplants. Medications are much more accessible. It seems like hair loss, shaved heads are less prevalent among younger guys....maybe because they are treating it.

What do you guys think?

I did see a guy with a shaved head out walking this morning. He was rubbing his shaved head. You knew he was happy with his choice. You couldn't miss him. He had a nice shine on his head and wearing a HiVis t-shirt. I'd guess he was enjoying a day off.

@Razorhead , here in Minnesota, I see alot more 20 and 30 something guys with shaved heads. Some with MPB, but many BBC! I do alot of car shows, which draws many spectators, and I'm amazed at how many guys have adopted the shaved head style.

In my experience, the opposite is true, and seeing far few younger guys were shaved heads, I was at a big picnic today and there was only one guy in the whole picnic with a shaved head!  I?m not even seeing that on bus cuts around here which surprises me because the temperature here in Chicago is in the 90s and extremely humid. You would think that some of these guys would want to get rid of the long hair.
I?m also seeing a lot of really bad haircuts since the price of a basic haircut here in Chicago is now $40 before tip. You see a lot more guys going to sport clips and that sort of thing so I?m seeing a lot of really badly grown out haircuts that don?t have good tapering and have blocked neck lines.!!!

Economy wise a rotary shaver doesn't cost a lot and shaving ones head is cheaper than paying 40 bucks for a haircut. Ive seen a lot more bald guys aty clinic who are under 50.

I got my hair cut today in Chicago and there was a sign posting that the price of a basic haircut will go up to $45 September 1st.  (probably because of the new 11% sales tax on "services")

So I pay $45 bucks, tip at least $10, drive 50 miles round trip with two gallons of Gas at $3.89 per gallon, and pay $7 for street parking at least twice a month to maintain this HT&B Horseshoe flattop when I am in Chicago.

When I am in Florida the other barber in the shop that I work in cuts my hair for free.

I haven't shaved my head in a year. So $0 on razors. No haircuts, and the shampoo I use for my power donut is so little (and that's leftover hair system shampoo LOL).

Nothing is cheaper than 0! ;)

It seems wherever I go, I usually see at least one other Sly dude. It's much more mainstream around here than it was 20 - 30 years ago. I'm glad to be part of it!

I feel like headshaving reached peaked ubiquity and mainstream acceptance during the 2010s, I see plenty of baldies whenever I go out but its not anymore than it was a decade ago. Most balding guys tend to opt for buzzing over shaving, and it seems to only be older guys or guys like myself with high Norwood patterns that go for the full bic.
Also, the mainstream knowledge and availability of hairloss prevention treatments are way more known than they were 10 years ago, and social media has done alot towards destigmatizing hairpieces and transplants among young men as well.

I think during the early 2000s head shaving was fashionable even for guys who had a full head of hair like me. Even young guys in their 20s were shaving their heads. I remember on boards the big question was how to eliminate the shadow.

I think guys now just do buzzcuts with their full heads of hair. When i was in the supermarket several months ago, there was a young guy with a shaved head. He had a full head of hair based on the 'shadow' and I did a double take thinking it's been a while since I saw that.

@J_Scott: I'm curious to know your thoughts on how many younger guys are getting transplants, hairpieces or using minoxidil or finasterid.  A coworker of mine got a transplant. He's fully bald in the back so i'm guessing most of the transplants are in the front. To me it's not a great look because he was growing his hair out. He looks like a guy experiencing hair loss trying to conceal it. I think maybe got transplants too late or his hairloss was very advanced. I think a buzzcut would have worked better on him. I actually saw him with the buzzcut, when his hair was growing after being shaved to get the transplants.
