how do I reply to people in threads?

I know this sounds like a really stupid question but for some reason when I click the reply button in thread convos it doesn't  reply directly to another person's comments. Why is this? I apologize for putting this in this section it just seems like the general section is less active and the issue I'm trying to solve is related to my head.

@baldandbrave91 I don't think the board is designed to be that way. It posts all messages in chronological order. When I am replying to a poster, I use the @name feature and sometimes a quote from the post I am replying to. This way the poster that you are replying to will get an email notification.
