The creeping return of the insidious comb-over
« on: February 15, 2025, 10:14:23 AM »
hi guys, I am a barber and I still work two days a week and what I have noticed lately is the proportion of my customers who are sporting coworkers. I mean some of these guys are parting their hair from the top of their ear and combing it completely over their heads!   there?s more and more and more of them lately. It?s like they?re in a time  warp!

I cut one guy here yesterday and I kid you not. The comb overs were almost 9 inches long.!

Have you guys  been noticing more comb overs lately.

I have not noticed any increase here, but there are some in the 75+ crowd that have had the combovers for the past 30 or 40 yeas and refuse to give up on them.

I did see one guy on YouTube who sports a come over on purpose. He shaves out the middle of his head and then comb the long hair from above his ear completely over it just like a natural comb over and he?s been doing it for quite some time, it?s actually kind of a fun look to see on such a young guy.

Oh, dear. If I start balding for reals, I rather laser the rest of my hair off than to so with a combover. That just looks a desperate attempt to hide the near inevitable.

And I cannot fathom how and why they don?t seem to notice how weird it looks I mean, they must be using a mirror to see the back of their head in order to perform that
?architectural feat? so they must get a look at that once in a while?!?

Are these guys actually losing their hair? Or is just a bad Bieber cut they want? I don't know why guys would want to go back to that if their hair is falling out. Just get transplants or something.

I just now had another customer in my chair. He?s got full male pattern baldness with just tiny wispy little white hairs springing up off the top of his head about an inch or too long and only about five hairs per square inch and he wants me to give him a ?regular? haircut. It looks ridiculous.

sounds like a creature of habit asking for a 'regular'. I just don't get why guys are so committed to their hair. For most of us, we are going to experience thinning or significant hair loss. So to be 'married' to your hair is a bit much. Guys just need to be comfortable with just shaving it off at any point.

Yes, I have several friends that are holing on to a few scraps of hair and combing it over. I don't say anything, but they would look so much better with aa shaved head. At least do a buzzcut!!

This. To me a buzzed or a shaved bald head looks cleaner and younger than hanging on to some remaining strands. I haven't reached that stage...yet.

If I do, I'll just shave or lazer it off (if it's feasible).
