Anyone get folliculitis on your head?
reddog:
I've mentioned this before, but will try again.
For years, before I shaved my head, I constantly would get acne/boils mostly on the back of my head. Once I shaved my head, I noticed the problem went away as long as I shaved my head daily. When I stopped shaving, the boils would come back within a week or so, until I returned to daily shaving. I went to a dermatologist, and after a couple topical lotions that didn't work, she wanted me to go on long term antibiotics. I didn't want to do that, so I've kept my head shaved for years.
Just wondering if anyone found a treatment that worked?

I live in Georgia, and we have hot summers. When I had hair, I used to get acne on the back of my head, probably due to excess sweating. I haven’t had this problem since I’ve gone bald. I guess it’s because my head stays cooler and shaving exfoliates the skin.

@chuck63 , sounds similar to what I get. Maybe the sweat glands get plugged up with oil. I tried everything out there when I grew hair back, nothing worked. I must be the daily scraping with a razor that keeps it clean.

I had lots of scalp problems before shaving my head.

This is interesting to read. I did not have any issues with my scalp before I shaved my head daily except dryness, especially during winter. Since shaving my head four years ago, I am able to apply after shave balm (I use Nivea after shave balm) and moisturizer on my head, and this makes the itchiness go away. When I tried to grow my hair back for a few days, my head got very itchy until I shaved my head clean bald again. This is one of the unexpected benefits of shaving my head.
