Is it just me...
« on: April 22, 2023, 12:08:36 AM »
I don't mean to sound judgemental, but am I the only one who thinks the only thing more pathetic than an adult man (or woman, but it's usually men) who sit in their basement, playing video games all day long is the person who watches these people do so on youtube or what is it called, Twitch?

Maybe I am starting to show my age.

I never really got into video games. My kids did but I'd rather read stuff online than play games.

I think you can take anything too far. Too much of anything isn't healthy. (Except craft beer)

I say do all in moderation - don't let things like video games become an obsession.

It's a hobby like anything else. Some guys like woodworking, some like tinkering with cars, some watching tv, some play video games, some read, some swim, etc. etc. etc.

We can get distracted because we personally don't like something that someone else does, but that's our own bias creeping in. They aren't bothering or hurting me, so live and let live.

Video games like other electronic things such as texting and email and first book are purposely designed by their creators to be making more and more addicted it’s called “ process addiction”

When I was younger I was in to video games but then they got too advanced and I got motion sickness from them.  Now, if it's raining or  a bad day, I play some solitare but that's it.  I do watch some youtube yard things to get some good tips so I can take care of my yard.

Video games are also specifically designed to groom children into gambling

Video games also desensitize children to extreme violence it becomes
‘normal”

It is my personal belief that this acceptance of violence as a normality is more responsible for mass shootings than the guns that are used to perpetrate them! When people live in a world of extreme violence in the matrix it crosses over into the real world very easily

Yes!!! I  am hooked on wet shaving with a DE. Pre-shaves, soaps, after shave stuff, blades etc.

As I learn more it gets more and more addicting.

Better than drugs I guess?

Maybe I am starting to show my age.

I was recently involved into a hobby from which I have distanced myself somewhat. This behaviour is quite common, but I'm not into it. Nowadays after travelling this year, I feel like I've missed out on exploring the outside world.

This is called "streaming" and it's very popular with as early as teens nowadays. I feel it has contributed to a lower quality culture and many types of mental issues such as anxiety among young people. A lot of these new slang and memes are coming from these popular streamers.

Bald by Choice since July 2023!  Having hair is overrated.
