Adding my name to this roster.  I’ve been a daily head shaver for the last 15 years. I’m six months into Project Epilate which I began at a Norwood 1.5 and currently, I’m at a respectable Norwood 7.  Project completion in an estimated 4 weeks. Thanks for the motivation!

I’ve used an epilator three or four times on my scalp.  After a month or two, the hair grows back.   Has anyone had permanent hair loss results from doing this?

I've only epilated my head completely once, but it definitely grew back thinner and some of my hair turned white. That being said the majority of my hair grew back after about a month. I have had more success achieving permanent results with hand tweezers, but it takes a lot longer. I think this is probably because epilators break a lot of the hair shafts rather than completely removing the root.
Interesting this thread should have a rise in activity, I've been considering going for a full tweeze again.

I'm using the  Silk Epil 9 and I'm pleased with the results. Is the  an end-all, cure-all, one stop shop?? No, it's not, but it's a HUGE step in the right direction. I need to re-epilate constantly, but the new growth is a minor percentage of what existed previously. I started with the epilator 6 months ago with at least 90% of my scalp heavily carpeted.  If you were to see me now in the coffee shop, you'd consider me to have considerable MPB.

I am curious on this topic...

Do you have to let your hair grow to a certain length before using an epilator? Hand tweezing must be a huge challenge especially on the back and "out of sight" areas. My hair is rather light colored until it starts growing in, so not as much shadow until some length comes back. I'd be interested in learning more about this and embracing the bald look without the need to shave as often. Nice topic and an interesting one, for sure!

An epilator will start to work two days after a shave.  It works better after three days, but the pain level increases as well.

G_bald asks a good question; how do you tweeze the back of your head/hard to reach places? For both hand tweezing and epilating I found that having a camera set up with a live-feed on my phone was super helpful(a little overkill perhaps). You could also accomplish this with a couple of mirrors. I'd agree that three days growth is the right length. I've been thinning about my hair for the past couple weeks getting ready for a full tweeze so I'll be able to share my experience about that soon.

Bumping since I’d like to see more conversation on this, for me I started out with a mirror set up for the first few months but now I can get by just by feeling for it. Have you kept it up at all or changed up your routines in any way? I really like the shadow free look so when maintenance got easy for my scalp I started to experiment and settled on removing everything else too since I had the pain tolerance for it. It felt like I was acting on a primal urge, maybe like the Egyptians 🤷🏽‍♂️
