Bowling for Charity
« on: July 14, 2016, 04:55:51 AM »
SBG's, hope all is well with you and yours. As some of you may know, I am an avid bowler. I've averaged over 210 the last five years since returning from Iraq. This weekend, in Houston, I have a major tournament which is done every third weekend in July (Warhawk knows about it, it was held in his area two years ago). I have been blessed with a small fortune (not rich), but I want to  donate to charities after the tournament. What I'm asking is for suggestions for six different charities that you may hold near and dear to your heart. I'm bowling six three-game blocks, four on Friday and two on Saturday. Here is my plan for each of the six charities

If the three games in a block total:
699 or less=.10 per pin
700-799=.20 per pin
800 or more=$250. (maximum possible three game total is 900 for anyone)
Any suggestions?

PS. A little off topic, but I was given a gift certificate to the Art of Shaving for my birthday last week. I plan to use it this afternoon when I get there.

Ok, folks, I made it home, so here are the score and the donations

1st shift: 641 series, Special Olympics gets $64.10
2nd shift: 530 series, St. Jude gets $53
3rd Shift: 645 series, Muscular Dystrophy gets $64.50
4th shift: 598 series, American Heart gets $59.80
1st Sat. Shift: 599 series, Local Police gets $59.90
2nd Sat Shift: 573 series, Wounded Warrior gets $57.30

All donations will take place on Monday morning, August 15th. I plan to do the same next year. While the scores were not as high as I would have liked, it still made me and my friends feel good inside!

As mentioned in the post above, yesterday was the day to make the donations. Unfortunately, as some of you who are Facebook friends with me know, I live near the Baton Rouge area which was hit by floods over the weekend. Thankfully, save for a three-hour power outage today (and a puddle on my back patio which has since dried out). I escaped unscathed. However, many of my friends and neighbors were not so fortunate. I do plan to make the charities mentioned above a donation down the road, but I have decided to do an about face and donate all of the intended money to help the flooding victims in my community once things settle down (probably next Monday) The total for the six combined charities was $358.60, so I will allocate all of that to help the community. Thanks again folks to take the time to read, and I'm not a guy to reneg on a commitment, but I hope you all understand.

Harry,

Glad to hear that you are safe - the flooding is horrific and the news here says that you are expecting another six inches of rain.

It's completely understandable that you want to redirect your donations given the change in circumstances.
