What is the best electric head shaver?
« on: March 16, 2016, 10:08:12 PM »
Hello to everyone. It's been quite a few years since I've been on here. I became a Sly Bald Guy almost eight years ago, and have enjoyed every minute of it. For most of that time, I've shaved my head every day using a blade, but recently, I wound up getting some blood clots, and have had to go on a life long regimen of blood thinners. Before, a nick or cut was no big deal, easily fixed with a styptic pencil, but now, it's a real hassle. As a result, I switched over to an electric razor, but have had less than desirable results. Not only do I not get a really close shave, but it takes me a long time because I have to keep going over the same area, over and over again. What used to take me less than ten minutes with a blade, now takes me at least a half hour, and I'm unhappy with the results.

I've read the post by Derris (Thankyou) about the various electric razors, but I'm still confused as to which one gives the closest head shave, so I'm reaching out to those who have tried the various shavers available, to get their personal opinions. I dont mind paying more for a shaver as long as the results are the closest, fastest shave I can get.

So has anyone used some of the mentioned shavers and decided which one of them gives results closest to a blade shave?

On a side note, does anyone know of a blade that gives a smooth shave, but is so safe that it's virtually impossible to cut yourself?

At Barber School we use the Andis Pro-foil shaver.  I use it on my own head and it is darn near as good as a blade.

Hint:  If you use a dusting of a good barber's talc on your head before you shave the foil slides on your scalp with far less irritation.  We use the talcum powder trick when doing really tight bald fade haircuts as well.

Welcome back, Jerry

I recently purchased the Wahl Shaper Shaver and the Andis Foil Shaver mentioned by Semi Sly. Both are less than $60 and I used them both once so far. Both cut very close, so close that if you were to follow with a blade shave, you'd be shaving very little with the blade.
Even when the d is removed, the devil is still evil.

Welcome back!
