What do you think?
« on: March 08, 2016, 02:05:22 PM »
Hey everyone,

I'm 26 and like the most of you I have some issues with my hair. The hairline is receding and the hair on my crown is also thinning. Every morning it's a mess to style my hair so that no one notices my current hair status.
That's why I'm trying to get used to the thought of shaving my head. It's just that I'm totally unsure how it would look like. I know: I should just try and see for myself. But before that I think it would be a help to hear some advice from you (well, since this is a forum for bald guys I already know your answer  :XX).

My concerns are that I've got quite the big forehead and the shape of my face is more like a V. I was said by a barber that this face shape isn't a good precondition for looking good with a shaved head.

So, here's a link to a picture. See for yourself and thanks in advance for your opinions.  :)

Greetings!

I honestly think it is hard to get good advice about shaving from a barber.  He is more interested in cutting hair than losing a client.

Your head shape is totally fine to be shaved if you chose to.  I don't think you really need to yet, but it is an option.. something to try if you feel like it.  It will grow back quickly enough.    I bet if you grow out more of your  facial hair, and then shave or buzz your head, you would really like it.

Welcome to the board, Heartsbane.

I also see nothing at all irregular about your forehead or the shape of your head. When I was contemplating shaving, I took a heavy dose of hair oil and slicked my hair down and back to get an idea of my skull's shape. It gave me a good indication of what I was to see when the hair came off.

Frankly, though, I don't think you have anything about which to worry.

I had similar concerns before shaving my head for the first time, but i loved the look from day one, i think you would feel the ssme, and quite honestly, much as i love my bald look, you would probably look even better than i do bald.

Heartsbane,

Being a guy who is BBC, and who has a large head (the Walmart hats just don't fit ... not large enough), regardless of how much hair you have or don't have, sporting a shaved head is still a good look.

What's the general hairstyle in your circle of friends and at work?  I work in the IT department and most guys have very short hair, buzzed, or shaved bald.  So it fits right in.  I got started with shorter hair when a co-worker suggested the shorter buzzed style. From there I just never let it grow out again, and eventually got the razor out.

Just this week at work, a lady from the kitchen made a comment, thinking I was naturally bald. She does not remember me with hair!

You have enough hair left that if you want a minimum of reaction, you can just take it down slowly. Talk with your barber and let him know of your plans. Let him know that you want to take your hair down to a buzz.  Note, the shorter your go, the more frequently you need a haircut. You'll get to the point where you'll probably want to just get your own clippers and buzz at least once a week or more often, to keep a consistent look.

Break out the razor when you are ready.  Oh, and DO grow in the facial hair.  Look at SlyMyke's avitar for an example.  Bald and beard go well together.

Honestly I think your head shape is very good and can imagine that a shaved head would be suit you very much.

It still looks like you have decent coverage to me...Try a shorter buzzcut first to see if you can get comfortable with little or no hair.

Your head and face shape is fine. I don't really think there's a certain face shape for bald anyway. I agree that you should start with a buzz. Start with a #3 and see how it looks.

Head shape is fine if you want to shave it. However a decent barber should be able to give honest advice. Something with much shorter sides would probably be best if you don't want to take the plunge yet

I don't think you need to shave yet but I have to agree with the post above. A shorter cut with short sides will help you.

Nothing wrong with your forehead. I felt I had a big forehead when my hair started to recede but those concerns went when I shaved my head!

Thanks for your replies, guys!

You helped me to make the step. Today my hair was shaved by my barber. ;) (I think I'll do it on my own in the future).

I have to say that I like it (though, now it's cold as hell outside without a cap  :D) . What do you think?  :)

Looks good! If you're not ready to razor shave, that level suits you well, IMO.

It looks great! I like it.   O0

In my opinion a smooth shaved head with glass would be make you look greater and more intelligent, but you can take a step in your tempo.

Actually, you got a buzzcut, not shaved. It looks really good!
Bald by choice, and loving it!
