Am I doing it wrong?

Hello I have very dark and very thick hair which I shave all over using a disposable razor (sorry not sure what the correct term is, like the ones woman use to shave their legs) my scalp is very sensitive (which is weird because the skin on the rest of body is quite tough) and after a shave goes red and blotchy and you can guarantee that it is impossible to shave without nicking or bleeding, then always feels very sore to touch all over for hours later, I absolutly hate having any stubble and would like my head to feel as smooth and soft as possible so I like to shave every day (my hair seems to grow back and begin to feel prickly to touch after a couple hours) I have tried to gentle exfoliate and soften the hair by shaving in or straight after a hot shower, I always make sure to use foam and moisturise well after (I used to shave my head a few years ago for a long time with the same problem but stopped after managing to take a massive chunk of skin out which left a massive scab and bled like a bitch, so after that experience and the hassle to get a smooth finish I decided to stop, but liked the style so much I decided to give it another shot) although doing these steps has helped it is still very difficult and like I said only seem to get smoothness for 3-4 hours, I was wondering if there was an easy, more idiot proof method or tool that didn't cost a rediculous amount and can still give me that smooth and soft feel. What type of razor are you using? I use a gillette mach3, cheap 2 blade disposables will be very harsh on your head. I gather you already have your hair to a shaved length now from your question, use a flannel and hot water over your head and then a good thick lather (can shaving cream is quite light) and initially shave with the grain (wtg) yes it doesn't provide quite so close a shave, but it is working towards getting your skin used to a razor, don't push the razor into the skin either, just let it glide over, also initially shave every couple of days, once again getting your skin used to it, then after shaving cold water with a flannel over your head, others even run an ice-cube over their head.

Just take your time leading into this, especially being bald by choice with thick hair. I'm sure someone who does have thick hair themselves can offer more specialised advice.

Thanks I use a 3 blade razor that has this weird thing underneath it that I have never seen before on other razors it is advertised as giving fewer nicks and I used it for the second time today and think it seems to be doing pretty good I can't remember what the name of the razor was as I threw the packaging out and have only just tried using this more expensive then I would normally buy brand becuase of what it was advertising and I had never seen any thing like it before so thought it was worth a try.
I have shaved my head in the past and shaved every day for about a year and half and still had the same problems and bad experience after every shaved but carried on persevering thinking things would get better or my head would get more used to it or this was just something that happened and was normal, and was just really disappointed at how fast my hair seemed to grow it seemed impossible to keep it smooth with as little irritation as possible

I can't offer much personal experience, sorry mate. Cos I can only grow a horseshoe on sides and back, so I don't have much to shave off and mostly pretty fine

Sorry but I am quite a newbie with this as I have never spoken to any one about head shaving or looked into any products but is there any sort of after car I can use to help soothe my head after wads from the irritation and redness I have tried different moisturiser and normally swap between using coconut oil and mama bees belly butter which is really good for softness and firming the skin I have used it on other parts of my body and found these products to be the best moisturisers so thought it would have the same affect on y scalp

Nivea afters shave balm, the sensitive version works the best for me. Make sure you get stuff without alcohol. Alcohol dries out your skin.

What direction do you shave? I would only suggest going with the grain using a better razor (fusion works well on the head) and do not push down on the razor when shaving. And maybe if your using canned goo, you might want to consider upgrading to a shave cream or soap and a brush.

I would strongly recommend a good shaving cream and a Gillette fusion.

I'm still a noob when it comes to head shaving but I will tell you that there is nothing I've discovered yet that'll keep me smooth for long. I shave every other day at around 13:00 and by my first break at work(19:30) I'm feeling stubble.

As far as products, ditch the canned stuff or put it away for when you run out and can't get to the store. My personal recommendation is to use the Burt's Bees stuff in the black tube(available at Target) and the Gillette Mach 3 Sensitive. It's cheap and easy. Should help the irritation as well. After care for me is either Bump Patrol(available at Wal Mart) or HeadBlade's after shave(Clear Head).
