Most of my training has come trough the army.  I started with high school wrestling.  Took a bit of a break from ground fighting till about five years ago, when I became involved with the Modern Army Combatives Program.  The whole program is based on Gracie Ju Jitsu, since Royce trained 2nd Bat Rangers.  I have not participated in much outside the army, but would like some time to learn a bit Mu Tai.  I can’t imagine to train with any of the Gracies.

That's cool.......Muay Thai is it for me when it comes to standup....for the kicks, knees, elbows and clinch for hands I prefer boxing as the hand skills you get from boxing are the best....

Training in a Gracie school is for learning Jiu Jitsu what training at Fairtex is to learning Muay Thai......there no better place to learn the respective arts in my opinion......

Ralph rotates between the schools but one of the BlackBelts runs the school, and since they're both Gracie Barra Blackbelts the technical aspect of the art is great as well as having tons of support when entering tournaments (next year for me hopefully)

When considering one of the Gracie gyms though you have to understand that belt promotion takes a long time (if you are the type of person that likes getting belts) it takes anywhere from 6 to 15 years to get a BlackBelt under a Gracie ....it'll take at least a year or more simply to be promoted from white but I like the way they do it because it's based on performance whether in sparring, competition in being able to teach what you know or beating belts higher than you .....

It's cool to see what all of you guys are in to.  I'm a huge sports fan, college football, NFL, NHL, UFC are my favorites.  I spend a lot of time at the gun club where I practice with my Buck Mark .22 and GLOCK 19, and in the Spring I am in a target and tactical league.  I play the bass, but I don't pick it up nearly as much as I should.

Well, my main hobby is furniture refinishing. I am now teaching myself woodworking. I enjoy riding my motorcycle when weather permits.  I have a past in Wrestling/martial arts, that has been suspended due to injuries and mostly, my work schedule. I'm an avid reader (mainly fantasy and horror) as well as a writer (working on my first novel *fingers crossed!!*) and blogger. I love music, and have everything from Marty Robbins to Slipknot in my MP3 collection (with the bulk of it being classic rock and various types of metal.) And ummm...computers is kind of a no  brainer, huh?  ;D

I love camping, Professional Football & Baseball, College Football & Basketball, and kids sports (Little League baseball and basketball).

I love to golf but don't do it nearly enough anymore.

I love to read and I'm a bit of a news junkie.

I guess I'm pretty boring because all I do is golf. I used to be a golf professional but couldn't make enough money. Teaching golf is my 2nd love and I still manage to stay at around a 0 handicap.  I do other stuff like 3d graphics, air brushing, wood carving but that's mostly in the winter when I'm trying to stay sane.

When it's warm out (May to Nov) I'm all about golf. Love it.

Hobbies:  record/play music
Sports:  Baseball, Tennis - My mom created a program for teaching young kids tennis, so I've always been around the sport.  I've been thinking about playing competitively again.

I'm always up for a friendly match! We either play for money or you get strokes, not both at the same time.  :x!

Actually, I'd do stroke play with handicap but never match play. I wouldn't stand a chance.

I know how that goes.
I'm a 4.6 and it's tough. Our club is in the NorCal Team Match Play Semifinals  O0, and we have a lot of low indexes (I'm the #7 guy out of 12 in a NET Team event...go figure). Anyway, I still don't understand how strokes are allocated in net match play. If I'm supposed to give a guy 5 shots (which is what I typically have to give), I would rather play him straight up on the five hardest holes than play at scratch and have the handicaps spin off my index. There aren't many rules of golf that I question, but that's one of them.

Stroke play and match play shouldn't use the same handicapping. Higher handicappers tend to have big blowup holes, double, trip, quad bogies. In match play I win the hole, counts as 1. Stroke play I'm now up by 2 or 3. Just can't make any ground giving 100% strokes in match play.  Golf just doesn't play out that way.

Better than nothing I suppose but you as a 4.6 would give me a MUCH better match with 2 or 3 strokes than a 20 handicap with 18 strokes.

I played in a handicapped tourney where I had an eagle halved by a par in a match. Brutal. I shot 74 from the tips and lost 4 down. lol
