ive been shaving my head for about 3 weeks now, i shave about three times a week as i dont like the stubble look. I do two or three passes with the grain. im in thailand for six months and may be limited as to what products i can get my hands on
- i use a merkur 34c de and taylor of old bond street shaving cream, i shave post shower at the sink
ive started using shampoo and a loofah pad gently on my head daily to clean/exfoliate, on the days i shave i use nivea facial scrub to exfoliate, post shave i just rinse my head in cold water and then apply - vaseline - total moisture - aloe fresh moisturizer liberally.
the last week or so the back of my head is full of either razor bump or ingrown hairs and a few pimples and a couple at the temples and id like some help in how to clear these up and prevent them in the future, i will allow the bumps to heal before starting again.
i was thinking of switching my post shave routine- rub head with ice cube, apply witch hazel and then use something like coconut oil to moisturize??? ideally id like to shave every second day to keep the head clean and smooth but the irritation on the back of my head is preventing that at present.
any help appreciated
3 oz witchazel, 1 oz rubbing alcohol, 5 uncoated aspirin tablets, 1/2 teaspoon glycerin...shake in bottle until aspirin dissolves, some will settle out, but shake before each use....apply a small amount to hands and rub over affected area after shaving or 1 time per day when not shaving...rinse hands with water.....let affected area air dry....I use it on the entire shaved area after each shave as a prevention.....it totally solved my problem. After you heal, you can apply moisturizer/sunscreen after the solution air dries. You can also reduce the alcohol and increase the witchhazel if you are sensitive to alcohol. Good luck. Doctors could not fix what this stuff fixed for me. Give it two weeks to heal before shaving again.
Try not to use too many products on your head! You need to give the skin room to breath. Minimal products is the best.
I use bump patrol and Witch hazel myself and find them superb. I use Taylors of Old Bond Street Sensitive shaving cream.
A good shaving brush helps too. Try not to go over a part of the head unless it has shaving cream on it. And dont go over and over the same spot again and again.
I have found that Gold Bond Powder will cure razor bumps, too. Just powder up your head before you go to bed and the bumps will be 90% better by morning. Menthol is what you feel in the Gold Bond, but it also contains the same ingredient as one finds in Bump Patrol.
