Windows Vista Sucks!!
champ007:
OK, I gotta vent :Xo!
My son is a Halo fanatic, started on the PC then the Xbox, then Bill Gates releases Halo 2 for PC. Being a big pc gamer, he purchased Halo 2 for PC with a little help from grandma. Unfortunately it only plays on Vista, well that is the multiplayer only works on vista, a little modding and the campain can play on XP pro. Anyway, being a IT guy who should know better, I decided to get him vista so he could enjoy the multiplayer part of the game. Of course he has a beefy machine, so I thought, no problem. Here is the setup: Asus a8x-s motherboard with 64bit support, AMD 64X2 3800 processor, 3.5 Gb memory, Nvidia 6800TX graphics, 80gb and 320gb sata drives.
I decided to dual boot his OS due to incompatible games he may have and picked up the Vista Home Premium 64 bit OS. Left the 80gb drive with XP pro and loaded the 320 with Vista. First problem was his NEC DVD drive, not supported. Grabbed a Lite-on DVD off the shelf and it passed. Got the os loaded, then had some a couple of freezes getting to the desktop. made it there and updated his graphics card, blue screen of death then dump file was built. rebooted and loaded update again, this time it passed. Next problem, sound not supported. No updates for the Soundmax, so I cut it off in the bios. Then the SIS965 to southbridge not supported. No luck there. Basically speaking I have spent the last 6 hours on this machine and have came to the conclusion I need to get a new motherboard, probably a processor and a updated Vid card just to run the shitty OS. If I could meet Mr Gates right night he would get the biggest Bitch Slap ever :x!
So if your thinking of Vista, do yourself a favor and just plan on buying a brand new PC with all the crap already in it, but be warned, there is not of compatibility with this OS out there!
Thanks for reading, I need a drink! dr!#k

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of it either. I got my wife a computer that has Vista on it, mostly because the laptop was on sale for $550, though it was a 2 Gig, 64 bit dual processor. I had to disable a ton of crap just to get it to run at the speed that XP runs at. What good is a bunch of features if it takes twice as long to get something going.

yea i know what you mean. i have a friend that got a computer off his sister and she changed it from xp to vista and he said vista isnt any faster then xp, so he going to change it back to windows xp.

Yea, things I do for my son. But the tequila has been great, in the morning I will just tell him "Be glad you can still boot XP!" :)
