Odd Shaped Head
« on: March 13, 2015, 07:26:48 PM »

So I've been balding since I was about 18 thanks to genetics.  My dad is bald and can really pull it off.  Me...not so much and one of the main reasons why is because of my head shape.  I used to have really good hair and now that it is gone, it's hard for me to accept it and that's because I cannot stand the shape of my head and how different I look without hair.  It is a huge confidence killer and I absilutely hate going out in public without a hat on.  I was just wondering what your guys input is on 1) If I should go completely bald since I'm practically there already and 2) If I have a really bad shaped head to go completely bald.  Thanks everyone..

I can't even believe that you are asking the question. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your head!  No dents, no nicks, no blaring birth marks.  We are always our own worst critics!

You look really good with the buzz and you will look great sly!  You definitely have the "looK" for it!

I think your headshape is good. Personally at this point, you might as well bic off the peach fuzz and maybe grow some facial hair. Welcome to the forum and good luck.

At least from the angle you posted, your head looks really good!  I agree that you might want to consider shaving it all pretty strongly.

It's a common affliction. Many people are way too critical of themselves and see things in the mirror that, frankly, just aren't there.

Your head shape is perfectly normal.

Good luck! Based on your picture, you're almost there anyway. I'll bet it'll look even better without the peach fuzz!

Welcome to the forum.

With your head shape you should be running to the sink to shave your head. It's really smooth. With the short buzz that you sport in the photo, you'll essentially there. I'd expect almost zero comments when you really do shave your head.

Would be fun to see a picture of you and your dad, both bald.

If hesitations remain about shaving your head, just stick around and participate in the discussions for awhile.  Review the 30 day rule video.

Thanks for asking.

I agree with the others that there is nothing wrong with the shape of your head. There's a lot of psychology involved in how we both literally and figuratively see ourselves. It seems like maybe you are still mourning the loss of your hair. Totally understandable but I think you will look differently to yourself when you can let it go. Your idealized self has hair so anything other than that is inferior. When you can truly accept the genetic cards you were dealt, and figure out how to maximize what you have, you'll see yourself differently. Your pic is, for me, the equivalent of two day's growth. So really you already are sly. The key is for you to embrace it by looking forward and not dwelling on your past idealized version of yourself with hair. How you make that mental shift is beyond the scope of my knowledge. For me, I just kind of did it. My balding pattern was really jacked up. I figured going sly couldn't be worse. I had nothing to lose. Took me about a week to get used to it. Now the only thing that would make me go back would be if I couldn't stand shaving anymore, which I don't see happening anytime soon. Just getting into wet shaving with a DE razor now. Fun stuff. Anyhow,  just try and relax about the whole thing. Try and look at it as a fun experiment. We are all works in progress, inside and out.

welcome, Ryan.  Your head shape looks fine.  One thing I've noticed is how much stuble and buzzes hair can draw more attention to imperfections on our scalps.  A shaven head actually shows this less.  Light reflects off the head , whereas a all amount of hair seems to add more shadows and adds definition to thinning areas, creating a worse heads shape, in appearance.
