Are you accustomed to them telling you what you do and do not like? Do they also get to pick who you date? What you eat? What you wear?

Plenty old enough to be making decisions for yourself, wouldn't you say?

It's just another hair style.  They will get over themselves soon enough.  You can always grow it back out.
If you are contemplating it, you must like the look, so I bet you will like it on yourself too.  It will be a big change at first , but you will get used to it.  I'm sure some people will be vocal about their objections, but don't let them bring you down.  As far as the advantages and disadvantages go, there are several threads on the forum that cover this question.  I don't have any disadvantages to share.

Does it help in the summer time, like does it keep you from not sweating as much/cooled down easier?

Absolutely cooler in the summer. I love sporting a nicely tanned head. One thing I noticed, you can cruise around with car windows down, and no messed up hair. Getting caught in the rain with a shaved head, priceless!
Bald by choice, and loving it!

Just lie about it tell them the barber accidentally forgot to put the guard on. ;D  Worked for me when I tried it at 19.  My friends wouldn't shut up about the concentration camp jokes though.
(BTW a 21 year old should have the right to do whatever he wants to do to his body/hair just my opinion, as long as he faces whatever consequences.)

Do it.  It's your hair and your business.  I get you will like the look and will want to keep it.

Do it for yourself, not anyone else.

One advantage is the awesome feel. If there is a disadvantage, it would be that your head could easily get cold in winter but you could always put a hat on. Most people love it once they've done the deed.

The advantage is a smooth head and the great feeling. Many bald guys feel very self-conscious.

I had contemplated shaving for a long time.  I really liked the bald look and kept thinking, "I wish I could do that."  One day I decided that what others thought didn't matter as much to me as my own happiness, so I shaved my head and haven't looked back.  That was 6 months ago.  I don't plan to have a head full of hair ever again.

It must be weighing on your mind since you went to the trouble of posting here asking for opinions.  You won't know if you like it until you try it.  If you don't like it, well you can always grow your hair back.  If you do like the bald look, great!  Either way, you've done something for yourself that, from your post, you really want and won't be happy until you do.
