All the places it looks like my hair is receding (front and sides) is one giant halo of scar tissue that goes around my head. I spent 3 days in the birth canal due to the negligence of my mothers doctor and have a ring of scar tissue as a result. Pictures don't show it too well but it is bumpy and red in places. The only reason I suspect I'm beginning to bald is I used to have hair under the scar at the top of my forehead. That has thinned to next to nothing and the hair I do have doesn't cover the scar as well as it used to. I haven't lost anything in the crown although my barber did say it was starting to thin but not terribly.
