Im 19, and I'm not sure what path to go on?
« on: August 18, 2014, 06:26:46 PM »
Im sure my MPB comes from my father who started losing hair around 24. I'm very young, and i'm wondering if there is something i can do at this age to save and grow it. I'm not sure if i should look into Hair transplant, rogaine or some kind of shampoo to use. What really bothers me is that I'm currently an actor and going bald or buzzing can limit me to what i can audition for. Its hard knowing that i may have to choose a different career other then film/television. I read up on some of the other forums on this site, and i noticed you all are respectful and supportive, and i really appreciate that. Thanks for your time guys. I attached a photo to this post

Your a long ways from bald. Not that that is a bad thing many bald actors Bruce Willis, Yul Brynner , Telly Savalas, Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Patrick Stewart,  Ben Kingsley, the Rock, Sean Connery....They seemed to do ok without hair.

I would not worry about it or take a drug and definitely not have transplants.

Be 19, know who you are inside and as an actor you can be what ever they dress you up as.
shine and share

I would not recommend a hair transplant. I had one, and is something I regret to this day.

The thing about hair transplant is that you will have to go through a few procedures in the course of your life, depending on how extensive is your bald pattern (your father is your best approximation). And you will not get that natural perfect look back.

Besides, you will most likely have to use drugs that could potentially mess up your organism. The medics are still not sure about the long term effects of most drugs.

What really bothers me is that I'm currently an actor and going bald or buzzing can limit me to what i can audition for.

You may be right about this. As far as mainstream entertainment/movies industry goes, the cute guy with perfect hair will always be the choice for main roles. But like invaray said, there are plenty of great bald actors, Oscar winners and stuff.

IMO, it all comes down to this: do you want to let something bother you for the rest of your life or do you prefer to be free of it and focus on the important things, like being a great actor?

Here's Patrick Stewart talking about going bald at 19 and being an actor.

You still have a lot of hair, though. Don't take any desperate measures, like a HT. Do your research, listen to other ppl who had hair transplants or take drugs every day. And also, listen to those who didn't, like most guys here.

Visit this board as often as you can, this place is great  O0

In the words of that Philosopher of the Twentieth Century, and all round good sport, Mae West, "The path of least resistance is always the one to take." Sterling advice.

As with others, I can only note that you must be an hysteric if the picture of you is correct.  Given the whorls of your sort of hair, there will always be a central point from which they emanate. Don't worry about it. Of course we'd be happy to have you join us but, that's your path to choose.

Also, as with others, NO hair plugs. Never. You WILL regret them for, basically, the rest of your life.

Wow, you are WAY TOO WORRIED about a very minor hair loss!

I agree with the others - No drugs, No plugs, No rugs!

I do see that you have a tiny bit of "angry scalp" going on; (redness of the scalp around the hair follicles).  You might want to consult your dermatologist about that.  He/she might recommend a medicated shampoo that will calm down that redness.  That alone will prevent unnecessary hair loss.  When the scalp is red/inflamed like yours is, it tends to kill off the weak hair follicles. (JMHO.  I am not a doctor but that is what my dermatologist told me).

I echo my colleagues by saying don't go the hair transplant route or receive hair plugs.  A lot of people have regretted going down that path.  I recommend you not deal with Rogaine either due to the bad side effects.  You still have a lot to work with and just enjoy it while you still can.
