Out of the bearded club (temporarily?)
« on: September 15, 2014, 01:11:55 PM »
Yes, SBG's (oops) I did it again

I was getting frustrated about the width of my beard not getting to where I would like, but in actuality, when I started curling my moustache, I was having so much fun, but my beard width and length could not keep pace. So I decided to cut down to the Van Dyke to make the handlebar stand out more. I also changed my avatar accordingly. In the past when I shaved the beard, I started growing it back immediately, but this time I think I will wait until October 18th as I have been invited to a military ball and I hate to get myself in a beard that will only have 30 days growth at most. That said, I do miss the beard, but unlike previous beards, thanks to the handlebar, I don't miss it as much and am considering keeping a handlebar with a detached Van Dyke once the ball has passed. Anyone else shaved a beard, but was ok with it after doing so?

I think the Van Dyke works better with the handlebar.

In terms of shaving, I was okay with it a few years ago. I went through a period of a circle beard before going back to full beard. Since then, the time has shortened. Recently, I trimmed from a long beard to a short one. Although I miss it, I feel like my old self again (in a good way.)
Once upon a time. The End.

Harry, I like it. I frequently change things up to keep from getting bored. Right now, I have a goatee, but will be shaving it off soon. I'll stay clean shaven briefly but then plan on growing back the full beard. I did that last year, but shaved after Christmas. This year I plan to start growing it in November and keep it until spring.

Thanks, Mike. I think this time I can stave off beard envy if you know what I mean.

Hello Harry.  My two cents, I think you look much better with neat little beard!  And you are right, it really shows off that fantastic 'stacie!

Looks great! I am sincerely jealous of your ability to grow a beard/stache though  ;D

I agree that the beard looks great on you.  Keep it.  I have grown a goatee since going bald by choice.   I feel so much better about my new look that I feel like a new man.  Ha men, should I keep it or go full beard or lose all hair on the face.
Thanks

One of the benefits of facial hair is the frequency we can change our style.  This is especially true for those of us sly.  It is almost limitless, and even allows some creativity (see BBBA's latest style).  While I did like the way you had your previous beard with the handlebar (connectors shaved), it looks good without the full beard as well and puts more focus on the handlebar.

Slybeard, I agree that sly guys having options with their facial hair is a plus....However, in this particular instance, I got an early jump on shaving the beard, because I have a military ball to attend on October 17th, which would have required shaving anyway. As for the mustache, I will try to roll the ends in for that night, and then I will resume growing the chin hairs afterwards.

As an A's fan, I approve of the handlebar
