If you have a full head of hair...

I don't have any significant hair loss, but I'm considering going sly just for a change.
Would any bald bros here like to comment on whether they think it's worth the effort (in maintenance) for guys like me?
Thanks,
-chilldude

Welcome, Chilldude.
When you get down to the basics of a shaved head, it really is only a haircut style. It is temporary, so you always can grow it back.
If you want to try a different look, the only way to know if you will like how it looks on you is to try it - then commit to staying that way for the thirty days to give yourself and those around you time to adjust to the change. For me, going smooth was one of the better choices I have made.

I have a full head of hair, and I enjoy my daily shave. Takes maybe 6 to 8 minutes. If you're interested, go for it...At worst, you don't like it, and it grows back.

@Cave Dweller: I’m not really concerned with how a shaved head would look on me. I can manage to look at least decent, if not good, in practically anything.
@Tobler1: That’s a little longer than the time it takes me to towel my hair, comb it, and spray it, but I guess it’s not that big a pain.

Since you are talking about the maintenance of a shaved head, I would say that once you get through the shaving learning process, it takes less time than shampooing and styling hair. I my case, shaving takes less time, because my hair was rather difficult to style and required blow drying and some type of product. And as a bonus, you do not have to worry about re-styling your hair throught the day, no hat hair issues, and no worries about wind, etc.

I think every man should try the sly look once in his life. As others have said, it's basically a different haircut. If you reaaly want a smooth scalp, daily shaving is what you'll have to do. With a little practice, it doesn't take much longer than shampooing, drying and styling your hair. Only difference is that once you shave in the morning, you don't have to worry about your "hairstyle" for the rest of the day!

Going Sly also eliminates the time/effort involved with going somewhere to have it cut (travel, wait time, actual cutting time) - if you do that.

I'm bbc myself. Being bald is definitely lower maintenance. Cheaper, too.

Another BBC guy here. I really like the look. I like the feel of the slick dome.
I've been with it over 2 years. It's a keeper. Nice hair style. I'd estimate that my daily shave is under 5 minutes, so easy maintenance. And if I do need to skip a day, 1 day without a shave is only noticeable for me and anyone who would touch my head (not many people do that).
It's a great option for men, and a very popular option these days. I see sly bald guys every day in our community.

I have a full head of hair, but I love the look and feel of a shaved head, so for at least part of every year, I take it all off and shave daily. Then, when the routine gets tiresome, I grow it back - although usually no longer than a buzz of some sort.
Anybody who tells you that shaving a full head of hair is "less maintenance" than having hair is nuts. A short buzzcut is low (or no) maintenance, but a shaved head means daily shaving - a ritual that takes 5-10 minutes for even the most seasoned veterans. So if you want to be BBC, just know that it does take some effort. But it's worth it - and I (as other posters have said) think every man owes it to himself to try shaving their head at least once in their lives.
And by the way, you may not realize it but you're already "doomed". Once the idea of shaving your head is in your thoughts - especially enough to bring you to this group - you'll have that "itch" until you give in to it. So go for it and don't torture yourself...

Baldsurfer, your comments really hit home with me. I have mentioned before, that shaving is high maintenance for me, and being BBC takes at least 15 minutes for me daily to shave. I have tried to grow my hair back several times(especially for the cold winter), but after about 2 weeks, I get the urge, and shave it again.
I also agree with your statement about being doomed once you think about shaving your head, I was consumed with the thought until I got up at 4am and took it all off. Good luck chilldude, I hope you like it if you decide to join the club!

Baldsurfer is hit the nail right on the head. im bbc as well and its nice to have the option to shave or grow it back. personally i LOVE it shaved my shave only takes about 5 min as well it takes your mind off of things at least for me i definitely do not thinking about what i had to do at work while i have a razor blade gliding across my head. so try it. give it the 30 days and if you don't like it you will have a buzz cut in three weeks

Agreed! It's like anything else in life.....once you got the itch...you need to scratch. I say just give it a try and decide what's best for you but I think you gotta try for 30 days to figure out the routine.
Daily shaving is more maintenance but it's also a daily pampering. 5 minutes everyday is better than driving to the barbers and waiting for a cut and then paying for it! Shaving daily at the sink is pretty quick. If you skip a week that's when it gets messy and more time consuming. To beat a morning rush, I will shave the night before.
I am bbc....At some point the look and feel of being bald beats everything else. If I had to grow hair I wouldn't know what to do with it.

BBC here, shaving was the best decision I ever made. Would not go back if you paid me.
