HANDLEBARS!!!
« on: May 04, 2013, 08:35:41 AM »
This year's handlebar was started on the first day of fall...and has survived much later into spring than usual.
Been out in the sun a lot so it's bleached out to almost blonde, not sure if it's staying much longer.  The 'stache isn't the problem, it's the beard that feels cruddy all the time now that the warmer weather is back.
Any of you guys who are bearded year round have any suggestions ?   Does the itchy/dirty feeling go away after a bit?   I really hate the idea of giving up the 'stache, it sort of needs the beard for balance...

Thoughts?  Ideas?

When the weather warms up I normally trim the beard short and wash it thoroughly every day. That keeps the itching to a minimum. I think that with a 1 or 2 guard on the majority of the beard you could leave the handlebar at its magnificent fullness, you might have kind of a Sam Elliott look (minus the locks).

I have never had a problem in the hot weather with my beard in the summer, and I live in humid and hot Louisiana.  I would think it would be like when starting a beard, if you can get through those first two or three weeks it will get better.  The handlebar looks great, I would hate to see you loose it.  It is shaped very well.   Do you have to work and wax it to get the shape or is it a natural curl?

The shape it takes is pretty much natural  but I do use a bit of wax to hold it in place a bit better.  My whiskers are a bit too wirey to get a nice tight curl in it without using a moustache iron, I avoid doing that unless I'm going somewhere "special" and want it to look its best.  Afraid that too much heat will make it brittle

The goatee is gone except for a bit of scruff under my lower lip...and that goes tomorrow.  Then it's officially a stand alone handlebar.

So my order of Captain Fawcett moustache arrived the other day. First altering steps at working on some handlebars. Don't get too excited. There's some way to go.

It's going to take some practice working the wax and styling the bars ! Profile picture duly updated.

I tinkered around with wax, and merely styling the mustache into the form. I prefer the natural look.
