Foil vs. Rotary
« on: March 11, 2014, 10:53:54 AM »
I just started shaving my head about 2 months ago.

I tried the headblade and it was ok, it wouldn't really allow me to go more than a couple of days without shaving.

So I decided to try electric.  I used the skull shaver it was pretty good.  But then my 4 year old dropped it and it broke.  So I have to buy another.

So I wanted to ask if you guys prefer foil or electric and why.  Also, what is a good electric to buy.  When using the wet option, does that mean shaving cream or just doing it in the shower or both.

Thanks so much!

Welcome, Richie! I prefer to shave with a razor, but in the absence of a razor, I use the Andis series of outliners to cut my hair close....They give me an almost smooth head, but gives the appearance of a smooth head that no one else will know the difference. Sorry about the mishap with your shaver, but I personally like the Andis which is meant to be shaved dry, but the Braun series is good for wet shaving. Good luck and enjoy the forum!

I use a Braun series 3 and it is very good indeed. Almost 100% smooth using it. Does take a few passes though but no razor burns etc etc

So you prefer the foil razors to rotary razors?

I use an Eltron EL-3040 battery operated foil shaver dry and it works very well. I use it with Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries. The shaver itself is very inexpensive.

It is only designed to be used dry, but I prefer that as it is quicker and easier. Electric shavers are not very effective unless used every day or every other day. If you want to go longer between shaves, you will likely need to trim with a trimmer first and then shaver.

Cheers!
