The facial hair fashion police

The assessment in this article comes across as somewhat harsh, but does the author have a point?  What's your take?

Says who? I've read this line of nonsense before. He makes an assumption that as we age , we get fat and the goatee looks silly - makes us look old. I disagree and I don't care what men under thirty are doing. I like my goatee and I think it looks good. I don't keep it to look young or cool. Maybe I should ask my 19 year old son if it embarrasses him. I doubt it but at the end of the day, I don't care whether he likes it either! !@!@

That was pretty much my reaction. I'm not trying to keep up with the under 30 crowd. If I were in that age group would I choose a different style? Probably.  But I still see plenty of goatees on guys my age.  As for it being an "old man" beard, I've accumulated enough grey that any kind of beard I grow is going to be an "old man" beard.

I've never understood the "embarrassing porn mustache'" thing either. It's not a style that looks good on me but I certainly don't find the look embarrassing on anyone else.

On the other hand, I was just wondering if maybe I was just getting a bit out of touch. I don't want to be "that guy" who still thinks mullets are cool -- and if I ever head down that road I hope someone would tell me!!

What is the difference between a style and a fad?  I, for one, have been a fan of guys having facial hair of any they can manage to grow.  I am not overly concerned with the fad of the day.  It is more what fits with the person and what the person wants.

I personally like full beards, but also like a Vandyke style goatee.  There do seem to be a lot of guys of all ages right now wearing full beards, and I think it's cool.  But I agree with SlyBeard that all facial hair is cool to me and whatever the guy wants to do is what he should do.

I looked up the author of that article and found out it is a woman. I not trying to be sexist but what does she know about growing facial hair.

I was wondering if the person who wrote the article even had facial hair.  I guess that answers the question.  (I hope she doesn't anyway..lol.)

So, what's wrong with being old?  I don't want to be a twenty-something again. . .which point, I might add, I did not have facial hair.

Additionally, anyone who is embarrassed by what I have on my own person, relies too much on who I am for their identity.  That is not healthy.

it really is a stupid article voicing a pretty narrow-minded opinion.

Yes, I'm glad we don't all look the same.  The World would be pretty boring...

I love the city of my birth, and do not want to offend TheSlyBear and other gentlemen up I35 from me, but the source of this article is only a community web news site in Austin. I don't give a lot of weight to the author's personal opinion of what is stylish.

"journalists" have to come up with something every week/month for their columns, so you often find that instead of putting some effort into it, they take the easy option of writing a sarcastic tongue in cheek moan about something... Beards are a regular one, shaving your head, botox, hair transplants, lipo...the lust goes on, luckily for these "journalists" doesn't mean you have to read it...
