Will I suit the look?
« on: July 30, 2013, 05:40:18 PM »
Hi... New on this site, been coming on here just reading some topics and whatnot for past week or so and thought I'd join.
Basically I'm 22 years old, a widows peak has been in development for a few years now I guess with my hair seeming to get thinner and thinner and my (nonexistant) hairline receding more and more, obviously you all know how that can feel and some at that particular age.
For a long time I didn't accept it, would imagine in my head how awesome it'd be with a full head of thick hair in my youth and all the different hairstyles that I could try out, and maybe impress the girls with but now I've suddenly became more welcoming of it and perhaps see it as a chance of a sort of make over, fresh start if you will. Just don't know whether I'd be able to pull it off now?
I'm abit peeved I'm unable to grow more dense facial hair ha, because would like some more to go with my potential bald/shaved head.

Pardon the corny pictures ha

Any opinions?

Welcome, Calum.

MPB in your twenties. Been there.

If you have been reading the threads on this board, then you already know it would be almost impossible to find a member who will say you should not try shaving it off if that is what you want to do.

A lot of guys shave their heads bald completely by choice. You still have a lot of hair up there, so now would be an excellent time to shave it off if you want to appear as if it was just something you decided to do without a thought of male pattern baldness.

You really will never know how liberating shaving is until you try it. I speak from experience when I say the hardest part is getting started. Once you start removing the hair, all the anxiety goes away.

I think you will look great.

Glad you are part of the board!

I would say so.  Maybe you could try a short buzz cut and see if you like it or not and go from there.

I'll echo Cave Dweller's comments.

I'm bald by choice. BBC.  Some say I have a receding hairline. I do have a widows peak, but it's been there all my life.  I'll take it as a good excuse to shave my head bald.

The IT guys back in the server room closets all wear their hair pretty tight.  So I joined that style a few years ago.  Buzzing shorter and shorter until I decided to see what bald would look like.  I've never gone back to hair.  I love being bald. Occasionally I'll get the comment, "but you have a lot of hair up there. Why do you shave it?"  I don't need a reason any more, really. I love the look, the feel.  I'm inspired by the profile pictures of all the bald guys here on this site, and all the bald heads I see out in our community.

Yes, You'll rock the look.  If you shave your head bald now and stick with it, if you really are going bald, no one will really know!  You'll know when that happens. Your razor blades will last longer as there is less hair to cut each morning. which reminds me. it's time to go shave my head again. Looking forward to it.

It's more a matter of "will the look suit you?" or, to put it another way, "Will you like the look?" One doesn't buy clothes to make them look better and so you don't shave your head to admire the fallen hair. If you like it, enjoy it, are proud of you and it, then it will suit you. Keep questioning it, ask others if it suits you, worry and fret about whether or no it was/is/will be a good idea and you've set up a situation in which you won't like it. You're a fine looking fellow on whom side curls and Caesar cut bangs would look good; You're one of the lucky ones who can wear any style successfully. Just lean back, don't worry about widows or their peaks and enjoy the way you look.

So you are thinking of shaving your head ? Let curiosity get the better of you - so shave your head. If you don't like it, grow it out and within a week you'll be sporting a regular buzz cut.

And you want the bald and bearded look ? My, you want to be trendy !!! Give it a few years and the facial hair will thicken.

Good luck

You currently have enough hair to look good, so it is really what you want to do.  You can give it a try to see how you like it, or like other's have said, go to a short buzz cut.  Just give yourself some time to adjust to the look.

As to your facial hair, your photo looks like you have enough coverage to work with.  Just remember that it take at least 3 months to see just how much density you will have in facial hair.  It will thicken up more as you age, I was in my 40's before I could wear a full beard.

If you are only thinking of shaving your head because of thinning hair then I think you are worrying over nothing. I dont think anyone would look at you currently and think his hair is thinning

If you want to do it as you like the look then try it.

Post of the day.

If you like the look to begin with, then you'll probably be interested and going for it yourself.

So go for it and shave your head.

Your hair doesn't seem to be thinning from the pic, so if you shave your head , it'll grow back. However if you are worried about your hair in the future thinning now is a good time to trial the look knowing it will come back.

However that said, if you are thinning you'll have plenty of time to be sly, so enjoy your hair whilst you have it now.

I am not too sure from the pictures how thin your hair is, but being sly is an option for anyone... because it's not permanent. If you don't enjoy it then you let it regrow. I have had very thin hair on the crown for a long time and the back is a barren wasteland now. I fought it by going with short buzz cuts, but I soon discovered it looks best really short and when I got to that point, out came the razor.

It was a long fight against it but finally I said "enough is enough, this is ridiculous" and I became smooth.  :)

Welcome! Your hair doesn't look to bad in the photos, but if you want to try sly, give it a go! A shorter cut couldn't hurt, but I don't see very much balding at all.

I don't notice much thinning from your pics. You have a very slight widows peak but that's it. I wouldn't worry about it unless all the men in your family went completely bald early.

Honestly I don't think you need to go sly yet unless you just really like the look, you've got tons of hair. If you want to try it then by all means give it a go, your hair will grow back in a few months if you don't like it and you'll know what to expect in the future should your MPB progress. Also I think you'd look awesome with a short buzz and face stubble.

I'm in the same boat as you, I'm 26 starting losing my hair at 22. I have about 2/3 of my hair left. I recently decided to cut it really short and I'm liking it.

Hi, Calum!

My vote is: Yes, Just do it buddy!

Take the clippers & buzz your hair down to a #0 & then get some shaving cream/gel & a nice, clean & sharp razor & shave the remaining stubble to reveal a nice, shiny & smooth scalp. You will love it & you will suit the look, too.

Don't be scared & just go for it.
