Headblade refills, how long do they last?
« on: August 20, 2013, 07:32:12 PM »
Do the 3, 4, and 6 blade refills last about as long as normal cartridge refills, or longer?  They aren't priced too bad, but just looking for the best value.  I normally use a double edge razor for my face, but its just not working out on my head.

I own a HeadBlade ATX....I usually soak my blades in baby oil and I've gotten an average of about 10 headshaves off of one blade. This trick will also work for DE blades. Make sure you clean your blade first before storing in the baby oil. Good luck!

With the triple, about a week of head shaves for me.

I get a month of daily head shaves from a cartridge.  I use a DE on my face and change it every 3 days.

I get about 20 head shaves for the 4 blade HB. I think they will last longer if you don't keep them in the bathroom, because of the extra humidity in the bathroom.

On a side note, I had an interesting experience with the HB3 refills. I went through the one that came with my sport and a whole refill pack. They just didn't provide a close clean shave. Even on multiple passes I couldn't get rid of the stubble. Loaded my Atra twin blade and I got a baby smooth head in one pass. Because if that experience I've been leery to try the HB4 refills. Anybody else have this problem with the HB3's?

I've had the same problem shavefan12. I don't get a smooth, close shave from the three's, and have preferred the doubles for quite some time.
The best deal I've found were the Wilkinson Sword super II plus, which are basically a Gillette Atra plus. They were available at Walmart for about 3.50 for a ten pack, although I feel they may have been discontinued. I haven't seen them in the store's for months now.
The Atra plus are my "go to" blades for the HB Sport.
As far as how long they last, that will depend on your shaving frequency, and hair type. I can get a month out of my doubles.

I just got my ATX so interesting thread (for me anyway :) ).

One other thing is to make sure that you use the plastic cap or something to elevate the blade. I made the mistake of setting it down to dry without the cover on and some of the moisturizing strip stuck to the sink when I went to pick it up and replace the cover... oooooops.

Still going though after 3-4 shaves so far.
