Help with my PSP...

• Alright, so I just picked up a refurbished PSP the other day.  It's awesome but I have one slight problem.  I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router set up that works perfectly for everything BUT the PSP.  The system detects my network, and I set it up with the WEP password and everything but when I go to test the connection on the unit I keep getting a timeout error.  Anyone have any idea how to get it to work?

• Have you got the WLAN switch on top set to "on"?
  Dumb question I know, but my son complained that his wasn't working anymore and I spent ages fiddling before I noticed it.

    actually yeah, it IS on cause it's able to detect the local networks, including the neighbors 3 houses down.  I just keep getting that timeout message when testing the connection.

• If you can connect to other (unsecured) networks it suggests that the settings for you connection are wrong.
  Check the channel used to ensure that the access point and PSP are using the same (or both using auto).  I seem to remember that there is also a setting for ad-hoc or access point networks.  Ensure you are not using ad-hoc.  If you're still having problems I'll see if I can wrestle one away from the kids this evening and look at the settings.

• Bald Rob:  I have 3 open connections on the router.
  
  Stumpy:  I can't connect to any of the other networks, and I even reset mine completely without any security and still couldn't connect.  I can detect all the same networks as what I can find with my laptop but I can't connect to any, it just keeps giving me the timeout error when generating the IP address.

• First you need firmware 2.00 for your PSP to make use of WPA. Second there is a
  bug with the newer 4.xx.xx firmware on the Linksys WRT54G routers.
  Downgrade to v3.03.6 and WPA will work just fine.
  
  
  If you do enable WEP ensure you use Key 1 (this makes
  sense when you see the config). The PSP cannot make use of any other
  key but key 1.

• Just checked the setting I use.
  I was using the earlier firmware on the PSP to start with but needed to update it for the boys to play a game.
  I'm using a Linksys WAP54G so some setting may not be appropriate.
  I only bother with WEP, WPA seems overkill for a home network.
  Ensuring I use infra-structure mode for the WAP and once I got the WEP key right (as Funshine says, use only key 1) I had no problem at all.  Channel number was misleading as the setting only seems relevant for ad-hoc mode.
