Yep I had to agree with your last paragraph BBBA. Nice as that Thomas Sabo ear cuff is, It wasn't sitting right with me either. I had to make it real

She's put these in to start and in a month we'll see what smaller diameter bead-less looks like. She wanted to go bigger and loose just whilst it heals
I've had 30 hours of tattooing done on my left arm but by piercing number 3! I was pretty much done! Hah I'm a softy

I also decided to have these put on a little lower than the cuff, kind of the 1/3, 2/3 thing

and the end of our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time

Looking at that it looks like I need a bigger one in my lower ear now but I may as well just wait a month and see then what it looks like with the smaller diameter rings

P.s I disagree with the razor shaved head vs short buzzcut part though...

Don't get me wrong I have been shaving my head for a while and people here on the board know I am a big advocate of the Headblade ATX or Edwin Jagger DE89 for head shaving.
But since I have grown a goatee lately and now starting on sideburns, I just want the look of a buzz cut at the moment

In a few months I may go back to head shaving :) but I don't see anything wrong with a buzzcut, it's not a copout. It's real

Today marks 9 months since I got my ear pierced.  I really like it. Change the stud daily just for variety.

Wow Crowbar!  I have to say that looks really good!  Now I am jealous!  It really sits well.  I just don't think that I have the cojones - perhaps just before I go to Burning Man?

And I do like the buzzcut with the sidies as well!.

Good on you!

Thank you BBBA, you were actually the catalyst for me deciding to get it done because what you said about making it real put how I was feeling into words :)

Go for it! It does hurt a lot but it's all over in 10 minutes, by then you'll either be still awake or passed out hah! :) just joking.

Overall it was a huge adrenaline rush getting three at once and I am still on a high
Also I've never ever, ever had sideburns, so it's fun seeing them grow in and shaping them as well...
I have seen people with shaved heads and sideburns, so I guess I could try that sometime

For some while I had both ears pierced with a good sized stud in each one. Then I had my shoulder replaced and the hospital, as is routine, removes all the piercings. Fine. (They couldn't get my tats and I believe they were slightly disappointed.) When I was finally released from the hospital and the rehab centre about five weeks later the holes had grown completely closed. My doctor even said that was unusual particularly as I'd had them for several years.

I think one's own confidence in themselves and their ability very quickly obviates any criticism. There are those who will not approve, feel it's "feminine" for a guy (I suggest they look at a portrait of Genghis Khan for a refutation of that idea....) or that it's not "appropriate" to whatever their job may be. Six weeks ago I was back in surgery and my anesthesiologist, age 55, had quite a find looking diamond in his left ear. Apparently it didn't interfere with his work as I went easily to "sleep" and woke right on schedule....

I knew a guy who did the sideburns with shaved head look for a while.  It did look cool, and unusual.  He did not keep a razor shave, just a 0 buzz, while the sideburns were longer, probably around a #2 or 3.  You could always give it a try, and if you don't like it, buzz the sideburns back to the same length as the head.  Just post a photo first.

Hi VOT if you decide to get two more, I highly recommend getting one done, let it heal for a month or two and then get the next.
The reason being is that if you get two, or more side by side, the inflammation spreads out and hits the inflammation spreading out from the one next to it.
This can cause major swelling and irritation and slower healing and potentially more scar tissue buildup.

I now know this because I made the mistake of pushing my piercer to do all three at once. Big mistake!
All is finally settling now but it's been a hard road and there is still swelling in that area, even though we are getting up to a month and half since I had it done.
There is no way I will be able to change these for smaller rings for at least another month or so I reckon and I have only just started being able to sleep on that side ...
and the end of our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time

Yep, Crowbar is right.  Inspired by Crowbar I got the first of three cartilage piercings two weeks ago today.  It is still swollen.  My piercer explained that these take a long time to heal because the cartilage has no blood supply of its own and must rely on the skin around the hole for blood to heal the wound.  He will make me wait at least a month to 6 weeks between each piercing.
