Hi, I've been on this forum about a year now, mainly reading.

I last posted in February when I was on holiday from work stating I couldn't grab the shaver and i left my hair which i have to style/comb over to cover my bad hairline. I've been waiting since then for the holiday I'm on now to shave my head, however day one has gone and my nerves have got me again.

I've literally been counting down the days til my holiday to shave it off, getting really excited etc but I can't do it, it's killing me.

Last week, I was asked to go to a theme park with a mate, usually I'd say no due to my hair being moved out of position, however I thought stuff it, i'll go and if I looked an idiot it'd be more motivation for me to do it. Well, I certainly looked an idiot after the rides, I had to keep rearranging it after every ride to put it back in place. The final nail I thought, I can't go on like this. It's embarrassing. But yet, I still keep it.

Does anyone have before/after pics of norwood 3/4/5 that they can post so I get the idea of what my hair will look like.

Why can't I just bloody do it? Aargh... :-(

Try going to a barber and tell him to do it....or at least no-guard it and see how it looks.....Ask yourself this question....will the norwood 3-4-5 still be on your head bothering you if you don't do it?....Worst case scenario....you don't like it and you can always grow your hair back. Good luck.

Hey, Red.

A lot of us have been where you are. Getting started is the hadrest part. I stood at the mirror with the clippers against what was left of my hairline for a few minutes before I started. Once you make that first swipe, though, the anxiety vanishes.

You are not going to believe how liberating it is to be shaved/sly.  Just take a deep breath and start.

What you have is fear of the unknown. Face your fear. Face the future. Everything will be fine. We are all behind you.

We've all vacillated and chickened out but eventually the itch completely takes over and then it is easy.  I only waited until I was 63 to do it.

You'll then think "why didn't I do this sooner".  Gook luck and post a pic.

There's no down-side. Just do it.

In the very unlikely event that you don't think it's the best favor you've ever done yourself, it just grows back.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I haven't done it yet as I've spent the whole day away from home but I've witnessed many men with shaved heads, none of them looked silly so I'm sure I'd look fine. Just need to get that first stroke in then I'm sure I'll be loving the freedom from this nightmare!

I completely understand, I was in a similar position. ...but....I promise you this....the relief you feel when you have shaved will be overwhelming. ...I laughed at my reflection. ..asking myself why I hadn't I done this years ago! just pick up the clippers and do it...you wont know what the word "regret" means

Look, you hate the way you are now right? So, what have you got to lose? Nothing worse than seeing a guy with his hair combed over! SHAVE!!!

Go for it mate  O0

Thanks everyone, I've just buzzed my head on a 1. Can't actually believe, if I catch my reflection I have to take a double look. What difference is there between a 1 and 0 buzz as this number 1 highlights my receding front quite a bit.

The hairline is already exposed.  Going to a 0 won't expose it anymore.  I say go for it.  It will only take a day or two to get back to where it is now if you don't like it.  It's Saturday morning, so if you go to zero now, you'll be almost back to where you are now by Monday morning.  Golden opportunity; don't let it pass.
