Having transitioned from a full head of hair to sly, it is very true that that the scalp is more prone to injury without the protection of a layer of hair.

I didn't expect that I would like being bald, but approximately 6 years later I'm still bald and have no intentions of ever growing it back

Same here Larry, I intended to shave my head one time, just to see what it was like. Here I am almost 5 years later, shaving it everyday. Easy to get hooked on that awesome feel of a smooth bald head.
