David Carradine
« on: June 28, 2007, 03:17:40 PM »
I was too young to remember Kung Fu from its original run but I have watched the reruns from time to time.  I didn't realize that David Carradine actually shaved his head for certain episodes.  Very unusual for those days.  I came across this photo today.  The sly look really suited him. I suppose the fact that he had (and still has) horrible hair emphasizes further how good he looked sly:

I thought he was shaven for all episodes...I guess my memory isn't that good.

Hey RazorX.  I am OLD enough to remember the Kung Fu show.  It came on Sunday afternoons in Oklahoma when I was a kid.  Dude was bad - especially the "haircut".  It was totally against the grain back then.  No one did the shaving thing.  He was definitely one of the early sly guys.

I can almost hear him now saying, "AAHHh Grasshopper, the sly look is very becoming of you."   :*))

I remember the show when it was on in prime time, so I must be really old.  I want to say that it was on Friday nights, but I'm probably wrong.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

Yea, I think he shaved it for the pilot show or movie ...then i think when it turned into a show it was a bald cap....

remember even a #4-5 buzzcut was WAY extreme back in those days...

times sure have changed! O0

I thought he was shaven for all episodes...I guess my memory isn't that good.

Apparently he shaved for the pilot and then let it grow out for the rest of the series, which makes sense because he was supposed to be a fugitive from China and would not have wanted to stand out.  I think he shaved it again for the final few episodes of the series.   Apparently he wanted to direct some of the episodes that required him to be bald and would not have been able to do that if we wore a bald cap, as he would have had to spend too much time in makeup every day, so he opted to shave it for real.

The flashback sequences from his youth always showed him bald as a kid.  I think the kid who played him really was shaved, but maybe I'm mistaken and it was a bald cap?

Talk about someone that could take a few years (or decades) off if he shaved it!  :/O

Yeah, he's thinned and receded so much, he really should shave it.
