To go bald again, or not
« on: June 26, 2007, 08:31:02 PM »
Let me give you my story in a nutshell. After my relationship ended (3 years) I decided to do something new. Before hand I had fairly long hair, and wanted it shaved, to be...liberating I guess. So i did this back in january, and kept it short shaving every other week with a 1 guard. Back in march I had decided to try it sly, I liked it, but a lot of the girls in my age group (I'm 22) I wonder if they dont approve?

Now, I am considering it again, shaved my head down to a 1 after 2 months of not cutting. Love the short style again, forgot how liberating it felt. I am digging the confidence I have with shorter hair, and received several compliments from women at work, but now I wonder should I take it down all the way again, be a real sly guy.

Also, i wear glasses, would that totally kill the slyness? Or would that be add to it?

Also, one thing I didnt like, and I think turned me off, was that I couldnt get it the shiney bald like the guy from the shield...I have no receding hairline, so I thought perhaps that could have been the issue. Are there any techniques to give it that straight to the skin shine? Thats the true deal breaker here for me.

Thanks for all the advice!

glasses shouldnt kill any sly look..most of the time is enhances it....if you dont have male pattern baldness you will have the "blue" shadow wherever your hairline is....but you can still get quite a shine if you take the right steps...mainly shaving with a quality razor...going with and against the grain until straight slickness....then using a exfoliator to get rid of that very top layer of dead skin cells.....then a cold water rinse..then using headlube glossy moisturizer lotion.....thats prob the best way to a shine for you unless you happen to start going naturally bald....the bald by choice guys can prob help you more than me though.

welcome to SBG's..give it another shot ,we'll help you overcome any problems in the shaving department....you also know it will grow right back if you don't like it.

I appreciate the response...Going to go pick up a good razor tomorrow and I'm going to do it again. Any suggestions on a quality razor? And what sort of shaving gel/cream would a local supermarket (kroger, publix) carry that would be good for head? Last time I just used regular gillette.

if you used a disposable or cheap razor that was your problem....i'd recommend the fusion or mach 3...i have the fusion and it works great...but i have switched to the headblade and hooked on it......get a fusion or mach3 for now and if you decide to stay sly this time invest in a headblade sport.......go to CVS,walgreens or any of the pharmacy stores like that and see if they have the headblade products which they usually do...if they do pick up a bottle of "headslick" shaving cream..it is hands down the best shaving cream for head shaving....if you cant find any...use some king of shaves gel......also pick up some st. ives apricot scrub so you can exfoliate before and after you shave...it makes a ton of difference in quality of shave and shine.....also buy a handheld mirror so you can shave in the shower, it helps soften your hair so it shaves easier and makes shaving alil easier than standing at the sink, but some guys prefer to stand at sink...... take some before and after pics for us!

Matt, we can help you get it shiny as you want.  Like Kajun said, try out the Mach3 or the Fusion.  Welcome to Sly Bald Guys!!

Not much to add to Kajun's outstanding responses except to say welcome and keep asking those questions.  The gang here will do their best to help you out.

Welcome iotapi421!!!  Don't worry about the glasses.  I wear them and think they actually add to my overall goodlookedness (new word)  :*))  You might even consider a new stylin pair that will push the cool factor.

Welcome! Dude don't worry about glasses and having a bald head...it's a good look, so don't let that hold you back.

As far as shine, try all the suggestions that have been given here in past posts...I'm naturally shiny, so i really don't need to help it along...but I understand you wanting yours to glissen in the light (very cool)...

Sounds like you dig the look, it's in your head and what you appearantly want right now,,,shave it smooth, because that is the only way to get the shine going ( you mentioned going to a #1)..

Slick and smooth and ultimately SLY is the only way to go brutha!

Good luck and don't sweat it so much, post some pics soon.

I'll have some sly pics for you guys in a few days =]

You can pull it off with the glasses no problem.
