It's gone! And I couldn't be happier
« on: June 24, 2007, 11:07:05 AM »
Been lurking around for the past few days and decided to post my intro. :)

I happened upon this site doing a search for Hairclub For Men (believe it or not), because my thinning, graying hair made me look 20 years older than I actually was and I was considering joining HCM. After reading all the horror stories about that so-called glued on hat with hair "system", thank God I found these sites first. Would have been an expensive mistake joining to just gain my "youthful" look with fake hair.

The other day I checked out the baldrus website and was amazed at the horror stories of wearing the HCM system (a very good story about it can be read by visiting http://hairclubsucks.com ) With the HMC "System", comes the itching, the maintenance, and above all, the expense.

I figured if I am going to regain the looks of my real age and not fork down a small mortgage, I may as well take it off. Take it ALL off (not litterally, of course)

So I stopped into the local pharmacy here and bought a brand new electric shears and a specially designed electric razor for head shaving. When I got home, I stood in front of the mirror, shears in one hand, a can of beer in the other. And I did the deed. My hair flushed down the toilet.

(As a footnote, that so-called electric "Head Shaver" was a misread on my part. The words HEAD SHAVER were prominant, but the number "2" next to it was in small print. It is actually a 2 HEAD shaver. HAHA! I felt like a dummy.. So I ordered the HeadBlade and am awaiting its arrival. Heard great stories about it)

Anyways, back to the story, when I looked at the final results, I was amazed. Not shocked as I thought I would be. I actually LOOKED YOUNGER! Yes, my hair actually made me look OLDER. But the real test came when I went to work the following day, and I was really nervious.

When I walked in the building, I came across the site manager (the head honcho) who I KNEW was a smart-aleck and would say something. True to form, he said "Get a haircut, you hippie". I laughed and asked him if I could borrow his comb. He turns and says "Lookin' good Jim!". But the real test came in with my fellow workers.

Every comment was positive. Women actually complimented me and said I looked so much younger and better. One of my friends, who's a flirt anyways, came up to me and said I looked so good she'd dump her boyfriend. ;) She was kidding, of course, but the fact remains that yes, hair does not make the man. It is the character behind the man.

As the days pass being Sly, I am finding more women who never gave me two thoughts are now paying more attention to me. I love it!

Man I am glad I took that thinning, graying hair off my dome. I will never go back. The reactions from people boosted my confidence and self esteem a thousand fold. And the neat part about it is if I put on sunglasses, I'm a spitting image to Paul Shaffer. ;)

In the end if you're thinking of getting a hairpiece (a laughable statement made on a forum dedicated to bald men and women :D) ,save your money, don't get the dead rat to wear on your head. Just take it off, give it a good shine, maybe even some car polish to have the water bead off your scalp like your cars hood (just kidding), and be yourself! You will not regret it for a minute. And the women will love you for it. :)

I will never go back. The look, the feel, the low maintenance, the shine, and looking 10 years younger. And to think i costs me a grand total of $40.00 (for the electric shears and the HeadBlade I recently ordered).  It was an investment well worth it.

Now I have this sudden craving to go to my local Harley dealer. Is his normal? :D

Glad to have found this board an all the fine Sly folks that inhabit. I will definately be a frequent visitor.

Thanks for the welcome guys. :) I gotta tell ya (which is something you probably already know by now anyways), this new look is sweet and feels so much better. The sly look may not be for everyone, but it sure was for me.

And for those reading who may not like the looks of their combovers and thin hair, try it anyways. Heck, it will grow back anyways, but you may be very surprised at the results.

And if Bald Girl Gone Wild is reading. MAN you look sexy. If you wern't married, I'd buy you  a drink.  O0

And you guys can call me Jim. Or Mini-Me, which ever you prefer.  :*))

Jim welcome to the site...you will soon find out that you made the right decision and enjoy the new found freedom...

I was a member of HCM, 7 yrs and $35,000 later, I am extremely happy I made the decision to shave my head and wish it would have happened sooner...speaking from experience, don't waste your $$$, hopefully I can help others before they waste all of the $$$.

any questions about it let me know.... O0

Hey Jim,
Welcome to the SBG&G club. When I hear a story like yours it gives me great incentive. While I would never think of going for a "system", I am currently coping with mpb. I am right at the edge since I recently buzzed down to  #1 and 0a, and I am thisclose to grabbing my Mach III
and just whisking it off.
I am impressed how you just went for it and be damned with everybody.
I am waiting until I am laid off from work. Though with your story here, I may just up the cojones and go for it.

Again , welcome, and keep the good vibes coming.

Joe

Welcome Jim - great story

Thanks. Looking at your avatar, I can tell you'd look killer Sly. Especially with those shades on.   8)

I say give it a try. Worst case scenario is you won't like it and grow it back. Best case scenario is you love it and will never g(r)o(w) back. ;)

And thank you for the warm welcome everyone.   :)

Now I have this sudden craving to go to my local Harley dealer. Is his normal? :D

Glad to have found this board an all the fine Sly folks that inhabit. I will definately be a frequent visitor.

Jim,

I'm 60 years old. Didn't buy a Harley - I can't shift with my foot anymore due to my disability. However, last week, I did buy a 2007 Suzuki Burgman 650cc Scooter. All automatic. It's the largest displacement scooter currently made -  looks like a sport bike, goes from 0 to 60 in about 5 seconds, and has a top speed of 115 mph! Engine isn't even working at 75 mph.  :@`

You may find these sudden urges to go into motorcycle shops "just to look around" like I did. After all, without that hair you feel more energetic, more confident. And it has the added bonus of "no helmet hair."

Glad you decided to shave it all off, Jim. You look great sly, and I'm happy to hear about all the positive feedback you have received at work. It just gets better and better.

Darrell

Awesome story Jim!! Welcome to Sly Bald Guys!  I think you'll be an inspiration to many who are thinking of going the Hair Club for Men route and decide to try Sly instead.
People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.
