HeadBlade ATX - am I using it wrong?
« on: May 21, 2013, 09:34:43 AM »
I've been using the HB Sport since I started shaving my head about 3 years ago, and it's easily the best shaving experience. Much respect to HB for creating that. However, when I went to the store recently to pick up some new blades for my sport, the store only had the 4 blade razors in stock along with the new ATX razors, so I figured I'd check it out. After giving it a few tries I must say I thoroughly dislike the ATX. It seems like the blade is at too much of an angle to get a close shave in many areas, which means I had to go over and over the same area several times that the Sport gets perfectly in one sweep. Even after several tries the ATX didn't shave as close as the Sport. Needless to say I went back to using the Sport and continue to love it. The number of positive reviews for the ATX baffle me, it makes me think maybe I'm doing something wrong. Anyone else had a similar experience with the ATX?

On the HB Sport you shouldn't put any pressure on the car above the blade, but on the ATX you put just enough to have the blades lie flat on the scalp.  Also the adapters need a certain amount of time to break in and feel right IMO.

It also took me a while to get used to it.  Once I did, I actually liked it quite a bit more than the sport.

It took me about a week to get used to the ATX. Add an across the grain pass to your routine see if that helps. I tend to ignore how it's intended to be held and use it my own way.
Here's a quick walkthrough I made on how I use the ATX

I had one and didn't care for it. I went back to my HB Sport.

I raffled it off here on the Forum for free.

Give it a little time Chris, put a little pressure when shaving using the ATX.

I love using my ATX, I have been shaving my scone for 17 years and it's the best I have used...bar none!!

Gives my the best "smooth as a baby's bum" shave.

In saying that, sometimes one razor suits one person better than others....it's all trial and error.

I like the ATX, and it gives me a good nic free shave. My secret? I almost never have the wheels touching.
I put my ring finger or pointer finger above the blade(depending on directions), lift the wheels off my head and shave with plenty of pressure.

Granted I've only been using it about a month, but that method with the HB6 blades, works well for me.

Wow Chris, my exact experience as well. The Sport worked great with the triple blades and my local store carried them. Now they just have the ATX and 4blades. I bought the 4 blades and figured I'd buy the ATX since everyone raved about it. So far it only gets me smooth in the front and then I get patches it does not get. I have also tried the 4 blade on my Sport and that is not good either. At this point I just want to have the HB triple back with my Sport. Guess I will have to order the triple blades. At this point I'm using my Fusion razor to shave. Glad to find that I'm not the only one .
