Loosing your hair, and don't want to go sly?

A tattoo artists' attempt to help balding guys..

Would be good to have someone on here who has had that done, there must be pros and cons? Eg what does it look like if you let your hair grow for a week? And what does it look like when you have just shaved? There must be a sweet point?

There's a lot of guys here that have extensive tattoo work done.  My concern would be that the clarity of the tattoo would fade over time.  Also, you would still need to shave your entire head on a daily basis.

My oldest tattoo is sixteen years old and the detail is a little blurred and the black ink is a little less black (slight greenish tinge) Since this guy's head looks like a lot of small dots close together, I'd worry that over time the dots would blur and the head would look like a mass of blackish spots.

As one who foolishly had extensive hair transplant work done when I was very young and insecure I was left with obvious scar patterns of missing hair all over the back and sides of my head. I shaved smooth only when I had time off from working and it just got to me. This past February I did get my whole head micro tattooed similar to this picture. While I would not adovcate this process unless one had discolored and scarred scalp skin, it has helped me tremendously. I can shave daily with confidence that no one will see any scarring as 90% of it is now concealed with stubble that is really dark ink. I know here it is bound to be made out to be inappropriate or living a lie but for me it is an amazing solution. I have met others who have had this done and it looks quite realistic, undetectable truly. No one has noticed or asked me about it as it looks just like shaved stubble up close or from far away.

I enjoy shaving my head daily now as it looks great, just like all of your heads look Im sure. Thats all I wanted. Unless you had extensive HT done and were scarred you may not understand this but it works well for me. The ink used is pure black basically, no other color. The oldest person has had it 11 years. No turning green or blue etc. No blurring either. It is meant to look like a stubble on a shaved head. It is not meant to have hair growing through it as then it looks odd. Again if I had not done HT I would happily shave as all of you do but with such strange scarring I had to try this and I am thrilled. 50% of their clients are HT scarred. Others just want the look of even stubble on a shaved head with no horseshoe effect. But all still shave, it is not hair or replacement for hair.

While I would never do this myself, it is nice to hear from someone who got it done and why. Thanks, chgobuzzbald for sharing your story. In the end, it actually looks good (if done right) on guys who don't have many other options.

it makes a lot of sense to use this to cover up scars. Good news about it lasting a decade+ too. I always imagine them looking like some of my dads tattoos. the years have not treated the ink well and he will need touch ups if he wants them to last. Will you go in for touch ups later or is the ink more permanent than most body tattoos?

I have changed my profile pic now that I have come out of my closet so to speak on scalp tattooing. As I wrote above I had them do my whole head so it would look even in color and density given the need to go over it 4 times to cover the scarred skin which was a much lighter shade than non-scarred skin around it. I can still see it but others cannot. There is a one year period where any touch ups are free. Im going back later this month for a touch up in some scar areas and to soften the lines on the temples down to the top of the ear. You  are told to wear sunscreen if out for extended periods in the sun. Their ink has never turned blue like some ink has done from another company doing this work in the USA. From my perspective it could not be worse than the HT scars. I expect over 5 years, 10 years it will fade and need to be touched up but I accept that. For fun I have let the top grow out to maybe a quarter inch since that hair was moved there while shaving the back/sides. But mostly I just shave as you guys do and am happy with the confidence this has given me. So I highly recommend it. If you have the mpb horseshoe shadow this can even it out and create an all over shadow as in my picture. Is it necessary ?  No, but for us HT survivors or even accident victims perhaps, this is a new approach that is helpful. BTW there is another guy in my pic who had this done if you look closely. This pic was taken at their Chicago office recently. It is called HIS Hair.
