Beard Necklines
« on: April 07, 2013, 02:21:34 PM »
Anyone else struggle with necklines and what looks good? Not only do I always seem to come out with an unequal one I am never quite sure if I have placed it right!

Necklines are tricky and a question of preference, too.  You could consider going to a barber for a trim and advice. Personally, I like the neckline lower.

I came cross this which might help you: http://www.beards.org/neck.php

Nice link Jules!

That is what I followed when I grew out my beard.

Just remember cut it lower as it can always be trimmed but not the other way around!

I used to struggle with my neckline too, you'll eventually work out how you like it, and start getting it even, as with all things it just comes down to practice  O0 Or You'll be like me and grow an epic beard so you don't have to worry about necklines haha

The best looking neckline is difficult. I have known a few guys that cut it too high and that just does not look good.  So definitely start lower than your first instinct.  And like Beardman said, with a longer beard, the issue disappears.

I do start high, and I have tried a few different types of trimmers but I always find it really hard to get a nice line..and when I have done I usually do not like the end result!

I cannot figure out how to post pictures on here..if I could I would show a few examples!

I know this is a little bit late but I wanted to toss this out there: When I had facial hair (which I plan on getting back soon) I used my jawbone as a guide and let it grow just slightly over the curve. I couldn't trim a straight line to save my life without using it as a guide lol

Geeman, you speak my language !! A raised over trimmed neck line just looks contrived.

A little below the jawline is definitely better. I usually end up doing the neckline with a straight razor. Seems to come out a little better. Stubble-type beards are definitely tougher than grown out ones, I think it makes any mistake much more noticeable.
