Hi guys. Just joined after spending weeks looking at forums. I'm 37 due to get married next month. At the moment I wear a hair replacement system. I have been wearing since I was a teenager, the wife to be as known about it since day 1 as I didn't want to hide it from her when we started dating years ago and she is fine with it.
For the last 12 months I have been getting sick of the maintenance and insecurity a unit can bring. I have felt that I wish to get rid of it and have freedom and go down with clippers as close as I can and get used to it before I try the full shaved look. I've felt confident in doing this and planed on doing it the day we go on our honeymoon for 3 weeks so I would have enough time to get use to it before everyone else see it. However as the time is getting closer I'm getting cold feet.
Feel I will hate the look of the person looking back at me and people will laugh at me. I'm generally a confident type of bloke. My misuse says to what makes me happy.
I just don't know what to do and feel anxious. Thanks for listening.

If wife to be is comfortable for it - do it. You will get some comments and kidding later but others will admire you for your confidence. you will feel relieved.

just do it, and start living your life free of worry, it will only be a big deal if you make it one, the relief you will feel when you do it will boost your confidence so you won't care about any comments, I met up with some friends last night that I hadn't seen since I went sly, no one was nasty, I got a couple of head rubs, but no more was said than when anyone else has a hair cut. After a few days, no one will give it a second thought

This statement that you made:
Feel I will hate the look of the person looking back at me and people will laugh at me.
This is what you need to think about. Trust me... everyone knows that you are wearing a "unit" and that is what they're laughing at. Once you ditch that "unit" they will no longer have a reason to laugh behind your back.
Get some good sunscreen and use it while you're on your Honeymoon.

Yeah I do know probably most know I'm wearing one as they sometimes stare at my hairline when I talk to them. I know you are all right it just feels like such a massive step I to something I wouldn't accept for all these year.
Scary.

It's normal to have cold feet. Anticipation of the Big Shave is much more anxiety-ridden than the deed itself. Once it's done, you'll feel greatly relieved.

Have you looked around lately? Shaved-head guys are everywhere. Do you hear a constant background sound of people laughing at them? I thought not.
We tend to think the whole world is watching us (in the case of Ming, they are), but what's on your head (or not) ranks not high on the list of what to make mock of. Bad hairpieces are certainly more grist for gossip than a shaved dome.
For a week or two people who know you before/after might say "something," but after that, the SLY look will just be "you," and these folks can move on to noticing all the other little bizarre things you present to the world.

Welcome mate,
Just remember that if you don't like it it will grow back eventually!
I'm positive that you like it though.... Honeymoon might be the perfect time to try it?
Good luck!

If it is something that has been on your mind, then perhaps it's time to think seriously and take the first steps. Perhaps set a date when you are going to remove it. Dont put yourself under pressure, do it when you are ready.
I have to disagree with some of the others that say "EVERYONE knows you are wearing fake hair and are laughing at you" simply not the case, some might suspect, some might not. Depends on what type of system it is you have. We dont want to be adding any more stress to guys on here!!
Go with your heart and not what is on your head! Ask questions if you need any advice.
Good luck!

I do know that people in work know or suspect because a so called friend decided to spread it and I have had people ask. My close friends know as well but never talk to me about it just the odd remark.

IF anyone were so callous as to laugh at you I would question just how important they are to you.
Abandoning "the unit" is probably slightly more unnerving than simply shaving it all away ... regardless, the liberation you will feel is more than you can imagine or describe.
If you've lurked about you've encountered countless posts of "I should have done this years ago."
All true.
Do it ... and post back.

Welcome, Stone Cold! The best way to go through this is to treat it as just another haircut.....If you do that, everyone else who respects you will do the same...As far as your "friend" who revealed the secret about your hair system, just chalk it up to jealousy and insecurity on his part. Good Luck!
