Replacement blades for Head Blade
« on: January 21, 2008, 07:03:00 AM »
Hi all-

My wife got me a Head Blade Sport for Christmas and i love it.... but I have a question.

The HB originally came with a green tinted blade..... but the package said something about Atra plus replacement blades. So I shaved with the HB from day one nick free and got such an oh so smooth shave on the old noggin. But when it came time to change the blade and I put one of those Atra Plus blades on the HB.... OWWW!! i cut the crap out of my head in several places.

Here's the question........ what was the original green blade that I had no trouble with? .... or a similar replacement. I've put the HB on the side until someone can answer this for me.

Please help!!!! I NEED MY HEAD BLADE!!!!

The original blade was probably the actual HeadBlades.  Replacements are available at Walgreens, Osco and other drug stores.  I have had a similar problem with the Atra's and only use the actual HeadBlade blades.  Some guys have great success with them.  You can also use an adapter and try the Sensor Excel blades on them. Hope that helps.

Hey Mike, I've used Atra generics for my HB Classic and have had no difficulties. Like Paul said, some people have success with them and some don't. Personally, I've never tried the available HB adapters for different blades. Guess it's a trial & error thing.

Oh, and welcome to SBG!

Mike, the blades that came on the HB Sport were either the HeadBlade doubles or triples that you can get at HeadBlade.com.  Or, like Paul and Schro said, you can use Atra or generic Atras.  There's also a third option.  Your Sport should have come with a black adapter.  This can be used for Gillette Sensor and Sensor Excel blades as well as their knockoffs.  I use the Sensor Excel blades and love 'em!

+1 for the Sensor blades. I find they knick less, shave closer, and use less passes

If you do not have a local store that carries a decent supply of the HeadBlade products, I found two chains that carry the blades under a different name.  CVS carries the CVS M3, 4.99 for a 4 pack, sales are often buy one get one 1/2 off.  Family Dollar carries it under their own name for 3.09 for a 4 pack.

Hey Lou-

Welcome to the site! You'll find a lot of great info and a lot of great guys on here.

What color headblade adapter do those CVS M3 blades use?

They should use the yellow astra blade because the M3's are the store brand Astra blades

Lou-

Good tip on the CVS M3 blades. I picked up a pack and they are great. I believe they are the same as the blade that came on the HB originally. I say this because they have a green strip along the top and bottom.... just like the original blade on the HB. the HB triples have sort of a yellowish band on them.... and they are also excellent.

Hope you saved the receipt......As far as I know, all adaptors should have one cartridge provided, though you can purchase a pack of four separately. Oh, and welcome!

Welcome mate,

Brand new sport comes with one adapter and one blade (already attached to the unit). If its got a blade on it, it's got the adapter on.

Is that what you meant? Or an extra adapter?

I've only tried Excels and they work really well.  Black adaptor I think they use.

My HB Sport came with the yellow adaptar installed on the blade AND a black adapter loose in the package (had no clue what it was for).  The 4-pack of HB3 Blades has two yellow adapters and an installation/removal gadget.

I've been using the official HB blades myself and didn't know you could interchange them with other brands.  Learn something new every day, glad now that I didn't chuck the black one ;)
