First spots of irritation
«
on:
January 26, 2013, 05:25:48 PM »
I'm on day 7 of sly and I'm experiencing my first couple of spots of irritation (shocking to me cos my skin in general is very sensitive, but I've had great luck w/ the head so far).
My back hairline is very dramatic -- looks like a giant "M". The two outer chunks that extend down towards my neck are cowlicky messes -- when long they are in tight curls (my hair is straight) and the hair there feels like it grows in every last direction.
To try to get it kind of close I've been shaving those areas WTG, then going by rough spots. I try not to go over it too many times even if it feels stubbly. For the first time tonight the areas feel a little sore (look fine, no redness).
(A) Ideas for soothing the irritation besides the regular lotion?
(B) Ideas for dealing with shaving those areas effectively/painlessly?
thanks!

I honestly don't know tomorrow marks three months for me being sly and I haven't experience anything like that. So I hope everything goes good for you and hopefully someone will get on and see this and know the answer. Hope it goes well for you

Thanks, got some balm and it's helping but the area is still not comfortable to rub in any direction except what I surmise is mostly WTG (towards the center of my head. Just those two spots at the very back of my head. Hair is so weird).
If it's still achy tonight at shave time should I skip that area or just go WTG in the name of toughening it up? I don't want to make things worse.
I guess I am lucky that so far no nicks or bumps and the rest of my head is achin' for a scrapin'

If you do shave it I would just do a single WTG pass over it. I would not do any more then that until the sensitivity goes away. Also make sure that you are using a good after shave. The only place that I have razor burn/ bump sensitivity is my lower jaw area right above my neck and once in a great while the back of my neck might feel a little warm. ClearHead and witch hazel have been a life saver for me in those areas. Actually at times I have used witch hazel, ClearHead and Nivea sensitive skin aftershave balm on my jaw when the irritation is bad. This combo has worked well for me.
Also you mentioned that the area is still not comfortable to rub in any direction except WTG. Personally when I have an area that is irritated, I just put the aftershave and moisturizer on and then do not touch it until the next shave. Touching an irritated area just keeps it irritated longer from what I have experienced.

Each shave is better than the last -- easier, closer, better feeling -- please tell me this effect continues!
The irritation at the back is under control, I very lightly shaved WTG and won't touch at all except to put on some balm if it starts feeling ick. But already feels better than it did yesterday.
My head is SO SMOOTH. Can't keep my hands off. This is nuts.
I don't think you can see any difference vs the avatar pic (except I'm wearing earrings today) but this community seems to like pics so here's one from a minute ago:

Just go WTG -- forget about ATG forever. Discerning women prefer their scalp to be a little rough.

Bella,
Don't loose the sight of the objective ( which is to be bald with an healthy skin) so:
WTG in the troubled areas
Let your skin rest by shaving every other day ( this way you are giving your skin, time to heal )
Apply an disinfecting cream ( if necessary go to the pharmacy and ask for one)
Disinfect your blade with alcohol
At least for now find a way to wash your head (only water) several times a day and reapply the cream.
Have faith, in a few days you will see results
Keep up.

Irritation is just about gone. Didn't touch that area with the razor today.
Shaves keep getting smoother and smoother. I'm getting more familiar with my multitude of cowlicks and how to handle them without creating irritation.
Day 9 and I feel like I've been bald for 30 seconds and forever at the same time
