, shaving soaps are better, however when you are short on time, Headslick and Shave Secret can give you a nice shave IMO

Kevin, I agree with you.
I have used HS in the past, still keep a bottle, but I don't get it either. There are plenty of other creams that lather up very well, including small sticks which are perfect for travelling.
6 months ago I bought a tube of La Toja shave cream and there is still enough in the tube to get past the first quarter of 2013. So, yeah...I too find Hslick very pricey

My KoS alpha gel is on it's last legs and I was debating on what to go with next, I was thinking of going with another bottle of Headslick. I does give a slightly better shave then the alpha gel, but as everyone else has mentioned I do feel I need to reapply half way through, If I try it again I might try a few drops of water to revitilise it, see how it goes. But I have been pretty keen to try a shave soap. So I guess we'll see where I fall when I walk out of my local shaver shop haha.

I have found that wiping the excess off the razor (not the blades obviously :P) and reapplying to my head between passes works well.

Also I dip my hand in the sink frequently to keep it hydrated.

Oh yeah, I shower shave, so between passes I normally just run it under the water, but that's a great idea, I might try that!

:Xo! I loved headslick when I first tried it! It completely blew me away. Sadly I notriced on my last bottle they have reformulated it...in a major way. Aloe has gone from ingredient 1 or 2 to 7 and various other questionable changes. The new formula was thinner, dissipated more quickly and took on a very tacky feel after a while. I've gone back to shave gels.

Glad to know that it is not just me that is having problems with it.  Oh and I tried what you said SlySirHarry, using the Shave Secret with Headslick.  It seemed to help it a lot.  But I am still not totally happy with it.  I will have to get a brush and bowl and try it like that sometime to see if it helps.  But thanks again, as usual your advice is spot on SlySirHarry.

Mikekoz, if you had to pick only one shave soap and brush what would you pick?  Help me pick a good one to start with.
