Another wrinke in the story. The shoeless man, now identified as Jeffrey Hillman, gave an interview to a New York paper-wearing the boots. Apparently someone tipped him off that showing up without them wouldn't help him. Flat out, he told the paper he liked living on the street and that going shoeless was his thing. He said he was amazed when the officer did what he did but...that changed nothing. As to the apartment, he doesn't use it much, just goes there to sleep, bath and sometimes eat. His brother confirmed all that and said his family had reached out to him many times but that, apparently, he "just liked to live on the street". No mention was made of his panhandling and just how much income that adds but police in several jurisdictions have reported seeing him and having contact with him over the past several years. I may be reading between the lines but, in reading the article, he resents having his cover blown as now contributions are going to dry up.

It is a funny world, I was thinking about the story of the man standing with a sign .  He had this fantastic voice , and it was put over you tube, news, and he got a job , money, fame all in a heart beat !  Meet up with his family and got drunk.  Dr. Phil sent him to treatment and haven't heard alot about that.  I think he left and is back on the street.  Never ends.   :o

I think it's sad. I see a lot of homeless people in the subways in the early mornings. I've seen them sleep on the trains, and in the stations. You can smell the stench of stale urine on them from a short distance. Sadly, I've also seen people posing, and asking, which makes one turned off from desiring to provide any sort of help. I understand that ultimately it is up to the very person; however, I also wonder on the morale of so many organizations, which speak about helping the less fortunate.
Once upon a time. The End.

I agree with this about the organizations, I have very little trust in many of them.  Same as those that say they are helping vets..  And as far as helping all these other country's why don't we start in our own ?
