Evening all
« on: October 31, 2012, 08:42:16 PM »
Hey everyone, just registered but have been perusing the board for awhile. I'm 26 years old in Canada and have some thinning at the crown. I've been alternating between #2-#4 buzzes and several inches ever since getting rid of shoulder length hair about 5 years ago. I, on a whim, took it down to a no guard buzz last week. Also, rocking a 3 inch long goatee (and still growing) with a full beard I keep trimmed.

Now that the intro is out of the way, I've never been overly confident with my appearance. I hate pictures of my self and even looking in the mirror at times...the thinning hasn't helped. However, the shorter the buzzes have been getting, the better I've been feeling. With the no guard buzz and beard combo, I look into the mirror and my first thought is "I don't hate that". I don't think I've ever had that reaction to my appearance and I feel this has been a huge step in my confidence...in public I feel like I hold my head a little higher.

Anywho, that's me...long winded as it was. I intend to rock the no guard buzz/long goatee combo for a bit and, who knows, maybe taking it down to the skin isn't too far in the future.

Welcome and good luck if/when you go all the way.

Welcome to the family mate! If you've been having a look through the forums you might have already seen this but, there is very little visual difference between a no guard and a smooth shave, but the difference in feeling is AMAZING. There is nothing better then a freshly shaved noggin... a freshly shaved chin on the other hand... I hate nothing more! haha

My goatee is sitting at about 5 inches now, I feel naked with a short beard these days.

Whether you decide to go full sly or not, I hope you hang around and join in the conversation!

Thanks, guys. Looking forward to my time here.

Beardman, the jump between no guard and slick is a mental change more than visual I think. I'm sure I'll grow the balls before long and go all the way. I don't expect the chin to be slick anytime soon though. Love the look and band shirt by the way. Couple more inches on your chin and a few more millimeters on my head, but very similar to the casual CCKael look.

I did the clippers for a while. Every so often, as the thinning on top increased, I'd decrease the guard length. Eventually going with no guard for a while until last Nov when I got a HeadBlade and went sly.

I'd been mentioning shaving it to my wife every once in a while throughout the whole clippering, usually when dropping a guard length and finally seemed like she warmed up to it after the no guard buzz.

It wasn't too hard a jump from there, and had very few people even mention (or notice?) the change. Fewer than when I first used the clippers with a guard.

The big change is now instead of clippering every week or two, I shave every day and want to keep it smooth!

Yeah, I understand mate, we've all been through it. You'll know when the time is right, you'll be kicking yourself you didn't do it sooner though haha... everyone feels the same :D

Sounds like you have a very cool look going on mate, nothing like a nice, big goat' hanging from your chin  O0

Welcome!

Since you already got to the no guard buzz, it's just a matter of time until you go a step further.
Enjoy the current look and when you're comfortable take the game to the next level.
