Here's my before and after. Been holding off doing it for a while. The receding didn't bother me so much as the back thinning out. Always thought about the people behind me looking at it.
Guess I don't have to worry about that now!

Thanks guys! I was having trouble coming to terms with it, being a young guy. Always had a full head of hair that was really long, until I realized it was fading.
Stumbled on this site the other day and it finally gave me the final oomph to get over it an do it.
So as for maintenance questions, what product is the best for putting on your head for shaving/keeping it clean? It's a whole new patch of skin. Do people use skin cleansing products to avoid pimples and such up there?

Welcome aboard. It's definetely a keeper!
Re products available: Making the decision to shave you just entered a whole new world. There are plenty of products out there for pre and aftershave. Just have a look at the forum, maybe the 'Protection for your bald head' section is useful.
Or google the likes of Headblade, Baldguyz, King of Shaves, etc.
I still enjoy trying out new products on a regular basis but here's what I normally use:
Shaving cream and a brush (Locally produced cream)
Pre Shave Scrub Headshed from Headblade
Witch Hazel as an after shave, or Clearhead from Headblade
Aloe Vera Gel for a good shine, sometimes Headlube glossy
